Wow. I lived in so-cal for several years and would hear about such impromptu checks occasionally but never experienced them. I love Cali but this is really heavy-handed gov at work. How does the aftermarket even survive there?

seems like Orange County seems to do this more frequent than LA County.

haha, no clue.

Its just upsetting because there must be more important issues in the county to deal with...but for some reason this takes priority

Thanks, but I'd still steer 100% clear of the area if running catless anything. Don't need to be around any CHP that has emissions on their minds. Not worth the risk.

That being said, the target is supposed to be cars older than 2007, but I wouldn't be surprised if any of us with an aftermarket header, front pipe, or muffler driving by noisly would be "randomly selected" for testing, or other inspection (tints, bumper height, etc.) Stay away ppl!

Lol I thought they were going to stop doing this?

Bunch of shenanigans.

Edit: Who would voluntarily waste a part of their day?

Anyhow who voluntarily produces an ID to a LEO without being accused of a crime.... aka people who don't understand the law or their rights.

-alex

Edit: only exception to this (generally speaking) is being pulled over as a driver. A driver's license is required as proof you are legally allowed to drive. But if you were walking down the street and an officer wants to see your ID, you can go on about your business without complying. Same with the above smog check scenario.
