DIY Homelink Install

Hello everyone so ive always been a long time lurker on all these threads and now i finally have something to contribute so here goes my first attempt at a DIY.

A home link mirror from subaru is a costly item to buy $200 give or take and for those of us that have the frameless mirrors we don't want to lose those.

So i set out to create a "oem" looking homelink that was a lot cheap then subarus option

First thing you need is the materials:
1 universal Home link module can look it up on ebay they are any where from $15-$30
* velcro or tape (however you choose to mount the module)
* soldering iron and solder
1 Toyota bezel part number PT41318130LL (cost me $8.47 from my local toyota)
1 button of your choosing (i choose to order another trunk release button from subaru and sand it down and remake a pattern on it.)
*some extra electrical wires.

Step 1: Open up the homelink module and your going to want to figure out which buttons you want to use i choose to use the far left 1.


Step 2: solder wires to the button 1 wire has to go to the top left solder and 1 wire goes to the bottom right solder.

Step 3: Replace the bezel in your dash (sorry don't have pictures there are plenty of diy's on how to drop the lower dash and get to that bezel.)

Step 4: Figure out how you want to power your module and hook it up. ( i hooked mine up to a auxiliary fuse box i put into the footwell thats hooked up to switched 12v power.)

Step 5: attached your module under your dash i used velcro and attached it under the brace for near the steering wheel.

Step 6: Reshape the picture on the button if you so choose to.

Step 7: attach all the wires and button and program your module

Step 8: Grab a drink then sit back and enjoy your "oem" looking homelink


(The paint is still drying so its a little glossier then it will be and its actually pretty close in color even though the picture makes it look really off.

this is genius now if only i had a garage. Rather than sanding down the button i would of use nail polish remover/diluted acetone.

One question... Couldn't you just take apart your garage door opener and use that instead of the homelink? That would save a bit more money.

You could but I didn't want to deal with rewiring that for 12v power instead of battery and I didn't have an extra garage door opening. You could Infact do it but it all depends on your end goal.

That makes sense. I was thinking of just using the battery and hiding it under the dash lip for easy removal when a new battery is needed.

i have the homelink on my rear view mirror anyone know why it wont program to my garage?
