I just want to change the tips

Like a lot of people, I don't like the stock exhaust tips on my 2014.
After a lot of research on all the different exhausts out there, I decided I do not want to alter the sound, so I thought I would just change the tips.
I really like the Perrin tips, but decided to try the 2015 stock tips. So I ordered a set. I am the least mechanical guy you've ever heard of, so much so I considered having the dealer install them for me, but then thought how dumb I would look, so I gave it a shot.
Driver side one came off no problem, but when I tried the other, the bolt head just twisted right off ! Maybe I was turning it the wrong way ? Even if that were so, I barely applied any pressure, it just broke off so easily.
Is there an idiot proof way to remove this bolt now ? Or do I need a mechanic to fix it ? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You could get a left handed drill bit and drill it out, or go to a local harware store and get an EZ-Out kit which will require a drill aswell. It's honestly really easy if you have that and should work without a problem.

Both my bolt heads twisted off when I tried to change my tips. I gave up trying to get them out myself so I just went ahead and took it to Minute Lube. They torched them right off for me.

Thanks guys ! I am going to home depot later so I will see what they have to help remove it. If it looks too hard I will take it in.
Do I need to order the replacement bolts from Subaru ? Or could I get those at Home Depot to ?

I would take the one in that came out fine and just get 2 more of those.

The tips I got had their own built in screws so I didn't need to worry about new bolts but if yours didn't come with their own, just find the same size ones from Home Depot. Preferably the powder coated ones to avoid rusting like the OEM ones did.

With your experience, I'd suggest you take your car up to a muffler shop and let them fix it .....

I'd suggest asking around the Aussie sub-forum. A lot of people down-under have taken off their stock exhausts and probably wouldn't mind selling you the just the JDM tips as they are stock on all Aus delivered cars.

If no luck there maybe try the Australian Facebook 86/BRZ parts market.

when that happened to me I just wedge a screw drive under the old tip (from the back) and just pulled down on the screw driver just enough to bend the old tip so that I could slip it off. Took some effort but not hard.
