How to Properly Data-log??

I'm using the OFT and I have seen the record feature on the live data screen...but what are the exact steps to properly record a usefull stream in order to be looked at by "tuners". How long do I record? Heavy on gas, or just a gradual increase to redline? Do I stay in 3rd or 4th gear? Thanks for the help.

usually 3rd gear pull from 2.5K RPM -- Redline then shift to 4th if you want and you can decrease speed if you see traffic.
i usually shift 3rd gear through 4th gear til red line if traffic allows me to
