Fuel smell...

New to boxer/DI.

Just did my periodic oil check and there is a rather strong smell of gas. Enough that the dipstick was at normal sight distance away but elicited an immediate reaction. Last oil change was ~1000miles ago.

-no mods
-never raced
-no oil loss from fill
-changed at Toybaru with their synthetic

Is this of concern or "normal."

Not abnormal to smell gas but from what you say may be excessive. Smell is sort of subjective really as some people can be more sensitive. If really bad can get the oil tested.

Do you allow your engine to warm up before driving? Let it run at the higher RPMs until it drops before taking off. Are you driving really short distances or something?

You might consider pulling the dipstick out of another car and smell it ...... for comparison.
