How do you mount the front plate?

My plates arrived and the I have the front mount but the bag is ripped and I can't exactly tell how to mount it. I can't get into that grill to mount it because it is blocked top and bottom. Is there a DIY guide for this?

I'm going to guess your dealership did not drill the front bumper. Most people hate that, but that is the default location. I used a kit to mount it to the side in the tow hook hole. Perrin and Grimm make kits to do that. If you search for those you will see the threads with lots of pictures. If you are after the stock location, I am of no help. =\

Were they supposed to? What's left of th instructions doesn't seem to show that.

Has anyone mounted their plate with the stock hardware?

if you really want to mount it, bring it back to the dealer and let them install it.

plate installation is including in PDI unless buyer/owner specifies not to

Right on. I'll give them a call tomorrow unless I can find a tutorial telling me it takes 15 minutes.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!

It might cost a little extra ($80) to get a tow hook mount but it is SO not worth drilling holes in your bumper. It totally ruins the lines of the the bumper having that plate mount bolted on there (in my opinion, of course, along with countless others.) Once you do it, you can't undo it. (Well, you can replace the bumper, but that's gonna really cost you!)
I'll save you the search:
here is the Perrin

and here is the Grimmspeed.

Take your pick!

Or, apparently you can use the stock mount and not drill into the bumper at all, just use the bottom holes mounted into the grille mesh bumper area. Check THIS out!

Please, for the sake of any future owner of your car, DON'T DO IT!!

I mounted mine in my garage. I'm willing to take the chance on a front plate ticket. Two of my other cars have never had front plates on them, and I haven't been hassled yet.

Totally off topic, but was that pic taken at GMR?

I forgot to ask about not putting on the front plate so the dealer went for it.

The standard mount appears to require them to drill two holes into the more solid upper portion of the black "honeycomb" grille in the front bumper (not the painted bumper itself). Is that part replaceable without replacing the entire bumper?

Edit: Also is there a specific grimmspeed plate relocator, or will any Subaru one do?

Yes, it was. Drove up there to finish up my break-in. What a day that was
