Track day

I don't have tire sponsors, but I do have an extra set of wheels.

I am goign to be taking my brz to the track soon and plan on doing some timed fast laps, and then i'm sure I will be trying my share at drifting.

I was planning on bringing a spare set of wheels for the rear end.

When you guys have tracked your cars, how did you prepare tires wise?

if its your first time dont bring anything, becuase since its your first time you will most likely not be pushing the car that hard.

i personally would not run different wheels on a car i track in the rear vs the front.

what kind of tire will you be using?

people always think you need so much fore track, all you really need is a car that is in good mechanical condition and a helmet. especially if you dont have a lot of seat time with the car, you wont be setting any lap records.

Bring a torque wrench to make sure your lug nuts are correctly tightened, a pressure gauge to check your tire pressure, and a pump to add air if needed.

After those items everything else is superfluous for a novice at the track. I've been to three track days now and I've only used the first two items from my list.

If you plan on driving on slicks, drive there on street tires and swap.

If you plan on going drifting, it varies by condition of pavement, and if you will be doing just doughnuts and figure 8's.
2 pairs should be more then enough, just make sure you give your tires a chance to cool down.

If you plan on drifting, the stock tires are good, but make sure to let them cool down if you get a nice chain going. Primacys are good for sliding but they can chunk pretty badly if you overheat them.

Thanks everyone. I haven't taken it on a track before, but I have driven it hard through canyons. And had other people comment on my talent. (Grew up racing karts and motorcross, so i have a good understanding of lines). Made me feel like I should take it on a track and see how much more (safe) fun I can have. I'm getting new wheels and tires when the stock ones wear out. So maybe i'll get new wheels and a set of tires, bust up the stock ones and then switch. I appricate it! Thanks

Where and when?

Keep in mind that track events generally frown upon (or even dis-allow) drifting, because the risk is significantly higher.

Spare tires are always good to have; if you take out your spare, you can actually stack 2 tires in the trunk and still have the rest of your car for anything else you take.

Track day

Bring a bottle of oil and make sure you check and top off before you run and between heats.

Between heats pop your hood and let that heat escape to preserve your hoses and cables.

Since it is your first time all you need is a bottle of oil, painters tape, air gauge, lots of bottled water, and some paper towels to check oil.

Before you go to track check your oil and make sure your tire air is at door jamb limits. Also, hand check all your reservoir caps to make sure nothing is open.

Listen to your instructor and be aware of your brake feel. If your brake pedal fades, feels mushy, or drops to the floor you're done for the day.

Otherwise have fun

I've been looking to go to Willow Springs for an open track day. I'd like to get a group together though.
