5th and 6th gear gone.

My 5th and 6th gear appear to be shot. It'll shift fine until it wants to go into 5th or 6th and then just goes to 2k rpm and sends no power to the wheels. Then when speed has fallen enough, it'll downshift to 3rd or 4th depending on throttle position. This is an Auto, FYI.

I really hope Subaru doesn't give me shit about this when I take it in tomorrow. It's a 2014 and only has 18k miles on it. I'll report back tomorrow how my visit goes.

Video of the issue:

they'll look at your ecu and see if you've red lined it. Also gonna check trac control etc etc... so just make sure you good on that. If so, youll get a new transmission if its bad. If it's clutch, get ready to call Toyota to make it a case. I doubt clutch would only affect 5+6, though. Synchros?

Just have the master technician go on a ride along and claim it warranty if you have it and don't have mods that the dealer could blame.

I had my manual transmission replaced without a single hitch

It's an auto :p As far as I know, autos dont have clutch or synchros.

Does this happen in manual mode, by any chance? You shift into 5th and nothing happens?

Sounds like an computer or shift solenoid issue. Or if you serviced the transmission maybe too little or too much transmission fluid? Try and disconnect the battery for 5-10 mins and take it out for a drive again.

It does happen in manual mode. That's how I figured out it was 5th and 6th gear.

The only mods I have made is rear diff bushings, oil catch can, perrin steering rack lock down and front control braces. I did do rustoleum undercarriage spray, but made sure the tranny was masked off for spray.

The EDR only records the last 30 seconds of ECU data regarding pre crash conditions. RPM's are not recorded.

Well after 4 hours of the car at the dealership, the tech found nothing wrong and therefore nothing was done. They couldn't replicate the problem and said keep an eye out for the conditions that might surround the next time it comes up. It's tough leaving the dealership knowing that nothing was done and that this could crop up again and if I don't get it to happen in front of a tech... Then nothing is wrong, even with a video.

Toyota's software records the highest rpm's hit among other things.

Or...they fixed the problem but don't want to tell you about it. Manufacturers are kind of funny that way sometimes.

Even if that's true, so what?

The mfgr sets the rev limiter at what they have determined to be the max safe limit.

If warranty claims were denied because a car had been "redlined" then nearly 100% of warranty claims would be denied.
