Bad luck on the Beltway

I was driving into work this morning and a dump truck on 495 outerloop and a dump truck was driving with dirt and stones trailing the truck and several of them hit my car and one has chipped or potentially cracked my windshield. Does anyone know of a good windshield repair place I can go to in the NOVA area? More or less a 10 mile radius around Alexandria,VA. I've used Safelite before on other vehicles and I'm not sure if I want to go through with them or not.

Sorry to hear that! I really wish there was a way we could avoid dump trunks all together they put a big gash in my front bumper (very noticeable).

Good luck with repair!

Sorry to hear that. Happened to me several thousand miles ago as well. Made me so mad. I had the safelite fix done for now, but you can still see the little spiderweb from it. I'll eventually just get the whole thing replaced. I just hate the idea of breaking that factory seal

I believe your insurance should replace the windshield free of charge. At least, that's from what I've read. Or you could call a phone number on one of those "Am I driving Safe" trucks and say a rock came out of the car and hit your windshield = free replacement.

Not in this state as far as I know... maybe virginia. I've never had any luck whatsoever with windshield insurance claims in Maryland.

Will, it can't hurt to call up your insurance and see what their coverage is. And the same goes for calling the safe driving people, but don't throw the people under the bus cos that is their job and you don't want to be responsible for it

I'm getting the chip repaired today by Safelite. The insurance will cover the repair to the windshield, but if it were a replacement, I would have had to pay my deductable, which is more expensive than the replacement windshield, but luckily I only need a repair. There are two "wings" sprouting from the chip which I assume is a crack, so it's just better to repair it now than to have to replace it later. I will give a final update either this afternoon or tomorrow after the work is done.

Issue is resolved.

I had Safelite go out to my car yesterday and they repaired the damage to my windsheild. The tech actually found a second chip on the windshield as well, and repaired both chips. The job isn't perfect, but I feel that with enough cleaning I can help it out a little bit. I will eventually replace the windshield in the future, but for now, I am happy enough with it. Thanks for the responses.

Glad there was somewhat of a satisfied resolution!
