HEADER JDL HKS ...

first question:
can you tell me why power increase if i just replace my header?
all exhaust and pipes are stock and i just header change.

if power increase it means toyota could not design a proper header?!!!

and last question
i have access to hks and jdl is not in my country.
is power difference high?
i mean should i spend extra money for importing jdl to my country?

Thanks

OMG another one of these "they don't know how to design a car" threads...

They didn't design the header to be loud and wakes all of your neighbors in the morning.
They didn't design the header so that your car fails modern emission testing.
They didn't design the header in a way that requires one person to spend hours and hours on a single unit.
They didn't design the header to look cool so that you can pull up to your local ricer meet and say, "look at my..."
They didn't design the header with the pure intent of people only using the car on a track.

They designed the header in a way that makes the car comfortable (to everyone) on a day to day basis, while being cost effective. Be happy that they didn't make them cast metal.

To contribute and i'm not sure if you mentioned this, i think the main difference is catted vs non-catted. Some companies like JDL spend time with R&D to remove the torque dip range in our curve. Bigger or more even runners and differnt styles like 4-1 vs 4-2-1...not sure what the difference is but one of those is better for top end power.

In all honesty i think you should get whatever is accessable to you and spend your money on a good tune.

You will get a power increase because you have better air flow. The stock header is the area with the most constrictive air flow in the exhaust system

Power difference is negligible... like maybe 1-3whp at max. Not worth spending that extra money to import jdl. Make sure you get a tune, that'll actually allow for max gains

Thanks guys
i think jdl could not disapear torque dip.
i think maybe jdl make it better but this problem come from mechanical design of boxer engine.
about more power i should to say i will not change catalyst converter, i will not change catback , i will not change exhaust. all thing are stock and just the header replace with hks.
air tank will be perrin.
my tuner is very professional.
hope to find more torque with hks header and perrin intanke.

@diodelphi

The more research you do the less questions youll have. Not nessecarily on this forum either, we dont have all the answers. The internet does though (somewhere and check your sources and compare for validity) about your questions. More often than not its a common sense answer, and after some thought you'll be able to come up with the answer, Ive done that many a time on this forum before sumbitting a thread.

That's not true. Here is a dyno with my JDL EL catted header. Keep in mind this is a 3rd gear pull on AT.

At the time I had K&N panel filter, JDL EL catted, 2.5" Nameless front/over pipe catted, and APEXi catback. Tune was done by Bob at Drift Office. Also, for anyone who's interested, I may be selling my JDL header soon. Planning on going FI in the near future.

The header did not get rid of the dip. The tune did.
You could tune the ECU with the stock header and get rid of the dip.
