How do you turn off "you have new message" notification in BRZ unit via android?

I used to own a nexus 4 and I'm always connected via bluetooth to play music and it notified me when I had a new message. When I upgraded to a Nexus 5, it notifies me every single time, worst of all when you click ignore or read, it doesnt even do anything. I'd like to revert back to the old nexus 4 days where I'm not notified of a new message. I've searched for this but people were pretty vague and said "you turn it off from settings on your phone." I've looked everywhere and I just don't know where I have to go to remove this annoying notification that ruins my music.. somebody help.

I think if you delete the phone from the hu and try the set up the connection again, there will be a prompt on your phone asking if you're willing to let the hu access the messages on the phone, just click no. This also solved my bluetooth disconnecting issues after 4.4.2 update

Lol, I can't get mine to give me my text messages. It has randomly worked like 3 times in the year I have owned the car.

thanks! I'll try that. I read older threads and they were saying the option is on your phone, I had the hardest time finding it.

And when it does work it gives you every message on your phone for the past 3 years so you can't hear the radio or see the map, just as I'm sure they intended.

Because reading what my wife ordered for dinner 2 years ago is so much more important than knowing which exit on the freeway to take.
