OFT... totally just bricked mine...

Bought OFT Thursday, got it Monday! wooo! One bad thing though...

I installed it by connecting to ECU, reading, and then when I was supposed to turn off ignition, somehow I thought it said to disconnect cable. Upon reconnecting and turning the ignition back on, I realized that something was amiss...

Now I can't read or write and the tablet seems completely useless.

Is there anything I can do to get back up and running? I think I am completely and utterly screwed, screwed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Time to get drunk. Thanks for any help.

First, relax. It may have just not generated your maps.

Plug the OFT into your PC and load up the newest version of OpenFlash. It should connect and you will probably see your factory ROM where it should be. Since you haven't flashed your ECU you can factory the OFT now without any problems, but it probably isn't necessary. Download the ROM pack from the website and upload the relevant map for you to a free slot, and then you should be able to connect to your car and flash.

You can't read right now because your factory ROM is already saved, and you can't write because there are no OFT maps on the device to write.

Try calling again? We all just got back from lunch 10 minutes ago. I'm not sure who the "main guy" you are referring to is, but I don't know of anyone here who dropped off the face of the Earth. If so, I'm concerned

You mean... There's still hope?

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. Having trouble getting the Open Flash Manager to work. It always asks me to select which program I need to open the update, which gives me a list of all programs.... Do I unzip it or something? Where do I put it?

The problem is that the device was erroneously unplugged before the OFT completely finished the read process. So it has an incomplete stock ROM file loaded on it. So the unit is coming back to us for recovery or possible replacement.

Just talked to them over the phone. Nice, smart guys. My unit needs to be sent back for them to look at. For anyone who buys this tablet in the future... Just follow the instructions. Generally if you don't get too frisky with it or do something blatantly stupid, all will go great.

The manager you are using is an old one but is still up on one of the sites for download. I had the same problem, The manager kept trying to download a file, and I didn't know how to open it. Would you post a link to the page you downloaded that manager from and Vishnu should be able to update or cancel that link. I don't know the link to the newest one, Shiv would you please list the link for the newest manager?

Man, this shouldn't brick! A simple flag variable to recover.

Code:
if(IsReading)
{
    ClearSave()
    IsReading = 0
}

IsReading = 1
Fence()

ReadECU()
Fence()

IsReading = 0

It probably is not bricked. But it's something we have not seen done before. So we want to look at it before we give the user the go ahead. All we can say at this time is that it's important to follow the directions on the screen. Especially during the writing process. In this case, it's not a big deal since it was just the read process.

I think they want to avoid the possibility of anyone being able to force the device to reset or erase or read another stock rom into the protected area and hence bypass the marrying up function. Agree it should be possible to code arround that one though , but pulling connector removes power no backup battery so it going to be ungracefull and end up with partial rom in memory , now your snookered does not match original so wont write and checksum incorrect , so no load of tunes either

They would have to check lenght of rom and checksum, which it was probably about to do before power pulled,

Or a call-home reset or something. Allow Vishnu to remote control your PC and reset it to save shipping the device... Just a thought.
