abs delete

I can't find anything on the forum, can't use 3 letter words, anyone knows if there is a topic somewhere about ABS delete?

Please don't tell me it is not worth it yadada, i just want info on it, mostly about wiring because i think the speedo will stop working and unsure about the rear brake light. I want to know the downside electrically.

thanks

If you totally disable it, you'll lose EBFD which will mean you'll probably want to plumb in a traditional proportioning valve (adjustable or not) to keep the front/rear bias how you want it.

You should be able to disable ABS without removing the wheel speed sensors/wiring, which means you should still have a speedo.

yeah a proportionning valve will be installed.

Maybe i wasn't clear enough, i want to disable it but mostly, i want to take it all off, including the wiring. i want to take the whole module out. What i fear is that if i want to take the module off and leave the connector unplugged, i won't have any speedo because the speed sensor seems to send their signal to the abs module and from what i understand it sends the info to the ecu by CAN.

Just pull the fuse to the abs pump. That will prevent it from ever interferring, but retains speedo function because sensors are still in place.

That's what I've done.

Have you confirmed they have the stock speedo working off the stock wheel speed sensors?

In all honesty, how badly do you need a speedo in a race car? I never look at the speedo on the track, you need to be able to judge speed looking out the front, not looking down at the speedo.

i will be making more test eventually, my concern is does the ecu uses the speed for something?

In fact, i don't need it that much because i will have a AIM dash and it can provide speed based on the gps. But, it does log the 4 sensors which tells you if you have a wheel that locks up and if so, which one. This is more important than speed itself.

If you're removing ABS and TC/VSC, the ECU doesn't use speed for anything at all except calculating which gear you're in, which only gets used on the cluster.

The ECU won't be logging if/when you locked up a wheel, or which one you locked up.

@diss7 started a thread about pulling the ABS fuse a few months ago, but it turned nasty instead of helpful. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54687

What's your end goal with removing everything ABS related? It sounds like you're doing it "because racecar", and not with a specific goal in mind?

yes, we are building a race car, we want to make a new braking system to have an adustable brake proportionning valve and i am trying to save as much weight as i can.

I plugged my AIM in the obd2 today and unplugged the abs and i am losing all 4 speed sensors (which i can log with my AIM, not log with the stock ECU obviously) So i guess i am stuck with using as least the abs electronics to log my speed sensors. (I beleive i had a couple of sensors that stopped working also, can't remember which one though.)

There are 4 screws on the ABS that seem to scream my name to remove the electronic from the mechanical part of the abs but i am afraid to mess something up...

If you're building a race car, speedo doesnt matter.. ?

The last thing I do at the track is look at what speed I'm doing...

i know, i don't mind about speed i am afraid the ECU might use the speed for some other correction factor.

Although i do need a speedo because i got to have the 50km/h pit lane speed but i can get that wih my electronic dash.
