New owner, saying hi, couple o' questions.
Hi all, today I picked up a 2014 SWP Premium 6MT. As you can probably tell from my join date, I've been eyeing an FT86 for quite a while - since the first concept came out. Finally joined the club!
No pics because, well, it's a bone stock SWP. But, I had a great dealer experience and got a great price - more than $2300 below sticker. This place is a great resource so far. I'm thinking of a few minor mods but this is a DD and I'm not looking for more power (been there, done that - I bought this car to be fun and reliable). Some cosmetic things (tint, tails), and next year some new wheels. Two quick questions: I'd like to pick up an exhaust - strictly for looks and sound, and on a budget. Thus, I'm looking at an axleback, specifically the Topspeed. Seems like most users here are pretty happy with the fit and finish, the sound (looking for no drone, but more aggressive at WOT), and the price can't be beat. Anyone want to talk me out of it? Second, my car came with the chrome fender vent applique. Not sure I like it. Does it simply peel off to reveal the body color underneath? Anyone tried plastidip-ing it? Finally, I'm thinking I may want to do an armrest. Is this one decent? Does it have a hinge or does it just sit on top? Thanks everyone, looking forward to enjoying this car, maybe meeting some local owners for a drive thru the mountains, and hopefully hitting a few trackdays this summer! |

Welcome and congrats on your new purchase. I know you'll love it. To answer some of your questions.
1. I have heard of a few people using the Top Speed axel back that has fitment issues, more specifically the tips not being even. Take a look into Nameless' axle back or the Greddy SP Elite. Check around on the forum at the many dealers for best price, you'd be surprised how low they are willing to go. Personally, I bought the non USDM (I dont like the "JDM" term) exhaust tips from japanparts.com and they look brilliant, still do today. So when I get around to doing the exhaust i'll probably do the front pipe/ secondary cat to make the stock exhaust louder, while actually picking up HP/TQ, keeping the stock look, and saving $$$. 2. No idea on this one 3. It seems cheap, but never heard of it before. This is what I have and I've had it since almost day 1 still holds up great and matches perfectly to the interior. Worth every penny. Make sure yours is YOURS.

Yes, it's painted underneath. However, I'm not sure if the tape leaves any residue that you need to clean up. I personally like the chrome trim.

You can peel it off and the will find the proper body color underneath. Many people on here have done it if you search hard enough for it
