Wish list

After 9 months/14000Km ownership of a GTS auto

Open letter to Toyota and Subaru.

You had a good thing when you launched the '86/BRZ. We thought the fun factor for the price was unmatched. but I believe existing owners are beginning to wonder if they will get the next release. Would-be new buyers must be surely realising that there are several less overtly sporting cars worth considering.

Competitors have progressed and to gain repeat business (myself included) and new purchasers, here's what I'd like to see:

Keep the base model as a platform for modders who want to do their own.

For the GTS

Keep price the same to match competitor value.

At all costs, retain the fun-factor which the competition lack.

Increase engine torque and have it delivered wide-range ... there are plenty of such turbo engines around now with great driveability, minimal lag, similar power but much higher torque, not to mention with better fuel economy and in lower or similar priced cars.

Improve rear visibility

Change the nose which scrapes too easily ... what about a speed-variable clearance. Maybe it could be passive with air speed.

Have the doorside bolsters of the backrests of the seats open to ease getting in and out.

Quit the round speedo ..... no-one looks at it as the digital is fine. Replace with oil temp, g-force gauge, digital combo gauge as option

Quit the heated seats. Quit the lights washers. Quit the sound tube. Make them options. Use the savings elsewhere.

Sharpen the low speed turn-in and reduce the turning circle

Cruise control and audio system thumb operated on steering wheel. Instead, delete the paddles which I like but would gladly swap for cruise and audio on the wheel.

Cruise control in auto models that controls car speed better. e.g. set to 60kmph but trans allows speed to reach 69kmph before change-down for engine-braking effect.

GPS with voice control that is more user-friendly.. after command " find address" the next question should be "what State and Suburb or Town" etc. ... i.e. following the same steps as for touchscreen

GPS that can be owner-updated at anytime for no charge.

Quieter cabin noise levels.

User preference settings e.g. to start with cruise control on, sports mode on, air recirculate off

Park assist or at least front+rear parking sensors or cameras

Discussion invited

Will require a entire redesign.

Change the nose which scrapes too easily ... what about a speed-variable clearance. Maybe it could be passive with air speed.

Ive scraped even on a camry... buy an air suspension.

Have the doorside bolsters of the backrests of the seats open to ease getting in and out.

What bolsters? You mean add more doors?

Quit the round speedo ..... no-one looks at it as the digital is fine. Replace with oil temp, g-force gauge, digital combo gauge as option

In some countries, the base model does NOT have the digital gauge.

Quit the heated seats. Quit the lights washers. Quit the sound tube. Make them options. Use the savings elsewhere.

Light washers? I never knew these were an option.

Heat Seats? Don't get the top of the line one then?

I like the sound tube...makes moar noise.

Sharpen the low speed turn-in and reduce the turning circle

I don't understand this complaint.

Cruise control and audio system thumb operated on steering wheel. Instead, delete the paddles which I like but would gladly swap for cruise and audio on the wheel.

The cruise control is standard Toyota-like cruise control. It's like that for the majority of the cars. Audio on the steering wheel? No thanks. It makes it harder to hook up a new sound system

Cruise control in auto models that controls car speed better. e.g. set to 60kmph but trans allows speed to reach 69kmph before change-down for engine-braking effect.

That's not the point of cruise control.

GPS with voice control that is more user-friendly.. after command " find address" the next question should be "what State and Suburb or Town" etc. ... i.e. following the same steps as for touchscreen

Buy an after market system.

GPS that can be owner-updated at anytime for no charge.

Buy an after market system.

Quieter cabin noise levels.

Sound deadening.

User preference settings e.g. to start with cruise control on, sports mode on, air recirculate off

Why would you start with cruise on!?

Park assist or at least front+rear parking sensors or cameras

Are you that bad at parking? This IS a drivers car...

I fixed that for you, because that's what it seems like you want.

Most of what you listed isn't practical at all.

1.the nose does scrap easily.. the car is very close to the ground, because it is a sports car... the trick is to understand how to get across obstacles that would normally scrape on-- like approaching speed bumps on a diagonal.. i'm quite sure variable-speed clearance would raise the cost of the car significantly..

2.this might be exactly waht you need

3. really? this is the easiest car i've ever parked.. i really suggest you take some time to drive some larger vehicles.. after driving a suburban, a chevy utility van with no rear windows, and 2 different models of convertibles with massive steering radius' and blind spots that can hide semi trucks, this is the easiest car i've driven since i started driving..
