CENTERLOCK THOUGHTS??

So a buddy of mine just showed me these because he is considering them on his e46 m3. I thought to myself "damn this would be insane on my brz" I'm going to email the company and find out more as far as compatibility goes.

Huge pain in your ass. The single lug needs a ton of torque to stay on (enough that you'll need a torque multiplying driver to get them on/off by hand), and to make them work you'll need hubs (probably rear axles), rotors and wheels to work. Adapters will probably be very thick and require a really high offset wheel to not poke a ton.

The only benefit in a racing situation is a single lug to remove instead of 5 during a tire change. You won't see a single benefit on these cars beyond the look.

yea very familiar with the fact that its mainly for look as far as street situations go. It requires about 350lbs of torque. I don't think i will need that much work though, i think if the hub adaptor kit is made properly for the brz it shouldn't be that big of an issue. I've already emailed the guys over there, just waiting for a response.

Not very practical, but WAY up there as far as "cool factor" goes IMO.

I wonder if anyone makes some 3 star lugs that you use the big hammer on like the Cobras had. THAT would be super cool.

Why not see if somebody makes a center cap that goes over the lug nuts and appears to be a center lock wheel? Or find a way to do it yourself

You don't have to deal with the hassle and cost of converting but still get the look.

so i spoke to the company, and they said the only machining i would need to do is change the bolt pattern on the wheel and the adapter. I can have that done by a friend of mine, so I'm seriously considering this lol! I probably and going with a BC Racing coil over setup, so i'd do it all at once. Am i crazy? probably!

Ummm, why would you have to change the bolt pattern on the wheel? You would either need to redrill the adapter to 5x100 to match our hubs, or redrill/tap your rotors and hubs to match the 5x120 of these adapters. IMO, you're way better off modifying the adapters so you don't have to modify every set of brake rotors.

I would get solid measurements of the adapters, if they're thick (which I imagine they will be) you might have a hard time finding wheels that will fit. You should shop around for what wheel sizes/offsets you can even find in a compatible center lock wheel too, you're not going to find a ton of selection.

yup sorry read the response wrong, no need to change the bolt pattern just re rill the adaptor. I need to do more research on the conversion, i work for Porsche so I'm gonna speak to a couple of the techs. I could always go the Centerlock "look" route with these HD Tuning wheels but I'm not in love

Whatever floats your boat I guess.

For anything but a fully built race car they are impractical; so impractical even Porsche GT3 RS guys get rid of them.

From Road and Track

In the marketing materials, Porsche claims the 4.0's standard center-lock wheel arrangement reduces unsprung weight. According to my scale, that's not necessarily true. Even if it was, the whole system is a huge pain to deal with—you need to buy a special geared tool to amplify the torque to the 440 lb-ft (!) required for each wheel's single nut, and the process of tightening-loosening-tightening is a huge production. The torque is so great that it requires the help of a second person to hit the brakes so the front wheel doesn't spin when you wrench on it, and my wife usually has better things to do.
Always one to look for the elegant (and lightweight) solution, I swapped the whole deal for old-school, five-lug hubs. The change was relatively straightforward; new hubs from a 2007–2008 GT3 and new wheel bearings ($1700), plus labor ($1700). I also had to buy new wheels ($3500), but selling the old ones ($3000) helped defray some of that cost.
Now the car is on Forgeline GA1R wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. A second set of GA1Rs is wrapped in Hoosier race rubber for the track. They may not be as visually appealing to a certain crowd, but they're a heck of a lot easier to live with. Just ask my wife.

That's a lot of pain in the ass just to be unique, IMO WAY too much pain in the ass to do it.
