Looking to swap BRZ h/u for Scion Nav h/u...

I wasn't able to find a thread for this, so hopefully it's not redundant. My biggest gripe about my BRZ is the lack of real buttons for switching tracks, which appears to be resolved on the FR-S head unit. I rarely use nav, but would like to retain that function. What I'm hoping to find out if if it's plug and play, or if not what may need to be changed, to swap the head unit out for the PT546-00140 part number Scion piece.

My primary function with my stereo is bluetooth audio and morning radio. I use the nav and phone bluetooth as infrequently as possible. All I really want out of my stereo is the ability to click a properly placed button to go to the next track. So, has anyone done this? It seems like all of the same connectors are on the back of the different radios, so I assume it will be plug and play. I'm hoping the hardest part of the swap is taking the Scion logo off of the trim and the startup screen!

Thanks in advance for any help with this! I'd like to hold off on buying a headunit until I verify this should work.

I don't think the FRS radio has XM, so you won't have a spot to plug the satellite radio antenna in on the back. Additionally, the original Bespoke radios did not have a GPS antenna either(they had a map-finder...not a GPS)

Others on here may have feedback about the 2015 FRS headunit but I would rather use a sundial and compass to navigate than the 2013 FRS bespoke navigation.

The lack of buttons on the BRZ is annoying but i've learned to cope. Have you considered installing something aftermarket?

Thanks for the feedback. I kept researching it and it seems the difference is the Subaru h/u includes everything in one piece, where it's an add on part for the Scion. I wish I liked anything on the aftermarket enough to go that route, but none of them seem to fit my requirements (at least what I've seen so far). I may buy a used Scion h/u and put it in even though I'll lose the NAV function. I rarely use it, and can just use my phone if needed anyway.

Keep us updated. I hate the lack of buttons. I don't use the Nav ever and I don't use XM because it's a pain to search through the channels.

Sorry if I'm opening an old post,

The 2013 FR-S 10 series & 2014 Monogram FR-S comes with Fully functioning GPS satellite navigation and comes with Bespoke with AHA radio which gives you an endless amount of music and shows for free. It syncs from Slacker Radio and other radios via Bluetooth. Same look as the pioneer you posted above but unlocked with all the goodies.

All you have to do is buy the radio you have above and purchase the gps antenna and then you can choose to use the aha bespoke or flash it to the Toyota entune audio system.

Or like our buddy said, get an after market unit. Pioneer have some for good rice that look like scion pioneer units with more capabilities and it get attached to the existing brackets on your radio. Plug and play.

Here's another alternative: Add hard-wired buttons to the BRZ HU's steering wheel input pins.

With a SPDT toggle switch that is momentary and center-off (ON-OFF-ON), you could easily rig that to do the HU's tune/track up/down functions. That will let you skip tracks on disc and USB, and change radio stations while in AM/FM or XM mode (pressing tune up/down briefly does preset up/down, holding those buttons longer does seek up/down).

If your car does not have the sport/snow button, that blank panel might be a good place. With some clever hacking and the right rocker switch, you may even be able to turn the blank into the face of the switch.

If you can add a 3rd button to connect to the SWC input, holding MODE long does mute/unmute.
