Hi guys,
Quick update: I spent most of the afternoon/evening calibrating our OTS E85 map on the dyno. Pretty happy with the results. The test car is a 6MT and has the following mods: OpenFlash Tablet.... $496 4-1 catless EL Header.... $600 Perrin foam filter.... $50 Modified Intake Duct*.... $free E85... $3.50/gallon Dyno Runs: Stock car on 91oct vs modified on E85 (same car, same dyno) ![]() ![]() ![]() This map is intended for straight E85. And it feels great. Throttle response is very snappy and top end power is far stronger than it ever was on pump gas. Even when the car was fully catless and with full exhaust. I'm going to test it for a few more days and post it up for our OFT customers. I hope you guys like it ![]() Some tuning details: Starting off with our OTS Stage 2 map, I made the following changes (off the top of my head): -Revised PI/DI split (kept the ECU in full DI mode for most of the rev range, with PI only coming in above 7200rpm. Strange but it made the most power that way. -Revised Ignition maps -Revised Fuel maps -Revised VVT maps (surprised how much power we picked up above 7000rpm). -Revised GDI injection timing -Revised cylinder ign compensations (zero'd them all out) -Revised injection scaling Having come from running E85 on turbo cars for 10+ years, I was surprised on how easy it was to tune an NA set-up. The changes weren't as great as I was expecting. With turbo engines, you make huge changes to AFR and Ignition advance but with NA, you only lean things out maybe 0.5 points and run a few more deg of timing up top since the engine easily runs at MBT. In fact, most time was spent testing seeing how rich and how little timing i could run before losing power (I started off with a street tune that was WAY too aggressive). Would be interesting to go back to the dyno with a cat-delete, over-pipe and cat-back installed. I ran this configuration for a month but it was too loud for my 40yr old ears. But I think the car might be able to make 210whp fully modded on E85. But that remains to be seen. But frankly, I think most people will be more than happy with a stockish-sounding car that makes nearly 30whp more than stock. Also worth noting that the dyno results are using a STD correction. If using an SAE correct, both the baseline and the tuned power numbers drop by 4-5hp. So the power delta is virtually identical regardless of correction factor. Cheers, shiv *For the intake, the only thing I modified was the snorkel. I cut the front bit in half and then widened the remaining duct by heating it up and forcibly opening it up with my hands. Took maybe 15 minutes and didn't cost me anything. But by my accounts, it was worth ~5whp compared to the stock unmolested air duct/snorkel. On the road, the modified snorkel kept logged intake temps only 5 deg F above ambient. By comparison, removing the snorkel completely, intake temps rose up to 20-25 above ambient. With the higher IATs, the car is noticeably less snappy and far more prone to knock retard. Last edited by Shiv@Openflash; 11-27-2013 at 02:19 PM. |

Can't wait for the E85 tune!!!
Will there be any port injection from 0-3000 rpm like shown here? http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...+injection+map There have been many engine issues from cars that have only DI, where carbon deposits build on the intake valves, when normally where PI tends to clean valves. to run the E85 was anything needed to be done to the fuel system, such as the injectors, fuel pump, or lines?

How sensitive will the tune be to ethanol ratings? E85 has a wide spec can range from 51-83% ethanol, lower in the winter blends. We dont have the benefit of an ethanol meter that flex fuel vehicles have. Would be have to do a test tube ethanol content test prior to fill up to be safe?
How did you do the swith over to e85, did you have to drain the tank fully, or could we fill up with e85 with a gallon of 91oct mixed in? I've been anxiously waiting for this tune.
