Best car for an unexpected late-night 6 hour trip

Alright friends, I am a couple hours in to an unplanned throw-a-bag-in-the-passenger-seat last minute late night blast and want your input on the topic floating through my head.

What's the ideal car for the journey I am on?

Three quarters of my trip is on the interstate, but the last quarter is on narrow winding mountain roads.

It should be something comfortable with sustained high speeds whilke still being nimble for the last leg of the trip.

Let's cap it at $40k USD current price (new or used does not matter).

Go!

Edit:

1) It's foggy. Good lighting is important.
2) It should be something that doesn't scream "boy racer" in the hopes I might be able to avoid a speeding fine if stopped. Hey, it's my hypothetical, let me dream!

Hmmmm that's a possibility. I was thinking Audi S8 for the interstate but they feel a bit big on smaller roads.

My choice would be a used M3 E46, can be found under $40K no problem.

Golf R?

Amenities, comfort, refinement (albeit less than the mk5 r32) for the open highway, and a great engine/drivetrain for the spirited stuff.

I'd have to go for (if not an 86) a Cooper S with a manual transmission. great mileage for the highway, and lots of fun on the twisty roads.

Toyota Supra. There's nothing more perfect for long cruising with mad JDM style, lots of torque on tap, and an excellent chassis for carving up canyons. Plus, it's got a ton of storage space, and very comfortable seats. Did I mention mad JDM style?

And you can get the most beautiful '97 turbo 6-spd with less than 50k miles with 40k...
