Question about Rev limiters: stock vs 'tuned'
My BRZ is currently stock, and there have been a couple of occasions during some autocrosses where I want/need to hold the car at the rev limiter. My past cars would just bounce off of the limiter until I was off throttle. but with the BRZ it hits the limiter and dies off, I'm not sure if its a fuel cut or ignition cut but it's a trait I would like to get rid of if I move into STX.
So to those who are more knowledgeable than me... When you tune the 86 either OTF or ECUtek does the car still act the same at the rev limiter? |

most tuners will program in a "soft" rev limiter rarther than the hard fuel cut of the stock rev limiter. The stock fuel cut rev limiter has a large hysteresis about 300 rpm ie if you hit 7400 fuel is cut till you go below 7100 Example below rev limit is increased to 7600 ( this is not necessary) bit the stock hysterysis is reduced to 50 rpm from 300 and also ignition retard is used initially to dull the power before you hit the fuel cut. This produces a soft limiter that you can "hang" at the limit rarther than die or bounce off it. |
