Suggestions on a second car
As time has gone on I've realized I should sell/trade-in my WRX. I really just like the BRZ so much more that it's making the WRX seem less and less fun. My plan is to get something more reasonable and get some cash back to spend on the BRZ.
Someone had offered an 06 Acura TL plus $6k...that seemed like it would have been perfect but the guy ended up having to back out. Any suggestions on what I could get that would yield me some extra cash in the difference and still be a nice car to drive? The WRX is a 2011, I'd likely get 18-19k on a trade in, or sell it on my own for 21-22k. |

What specifically are you looking for? Sporty? Practical? 4 door? Is it your DD or your wife's car?
Without really knowing what you want I'm going to say used GTI, practical jack of all trades but still pretty nice and wife friendly.

My wife's '05 Mazda3 has held up remarkably well. Had it since new, now 150k on the clock. Fun to drive and pretty utilitarian (5-door, anyway). Leather interior is very nice, it's like a small luxo/sport wagon! Pick one up for cheap, enjoy driving it, and have $$,$$$ in your pocket.

For cars in the $15k price range, I was impressed with the 2012 Mazda 3 rental I had.

I had an 09 Honda Fit Sport that I loved. Very fun to drive if you get a manual. Automatics are a little anemic.

If you don't care about fun, hear me out. I have an 07 Camry and it's boring as sin, but probably the best appliance car I've owned. Comfortable, tons of rear leg room, averages mid-high 20s mpg (4cyl) and very cheap to insure. I did have to change the water pump at 55k miles, but it wasn't a hard job at all.
The V6 isn't much of a slouch either, if you want something a bit faster than the BRZ. And if you want a bit more luxury, Lexus ES350. Or if you just want practicality and to keep most of the fun of the WRX. Legacy GT. |

get a FRS perfect second car to a BRZ
it's like having a BRZ, but you don't have to get emotionally attached because it isn't actually a cool car. Flame suit on |

I don't mean to go slightly off topic here, but do you really need a second car? I would sell it if I wasn't using it and pocket the cash, or spend it on things that I need. Hell, in some places that's a down payment on a house!
If you need a second car for utilitarian purposes, I would suggest the kings of utility: Camry Accord (TL or TSX if you want a little more fun and more luxury) Mazda6 (I would absolutely recommend this one over the others!), I had a Mazda3 hatch as well and I loved it (one of my favorite cars). |

I traded my wrx for an frs. While I love it, I still miss the wrx. If I were in your shoes, I would keep the wrx. Get a downpipe, air filter and tune and some wheels/tires and leave it at that. That can be done for all of $2,000 if you look around. For sub 30k, there is no car that is as good as an all around car.
