Vanity/Personalized Plates in CA

Anyone know how long the plates actually take to get here when you order them?

Also will they come with registration stickers as well? I don't want to go buy another set of stickers if I already have mine on my serialized plates. I just don't want to stick mine on my current plates and then have nothing on my vanity plate, then pay another 20-30 for replacement stickers in CA.

Anyone with Vanity Plates know?

think mine came in less than 3 months. And the way it works, is when they are ready you have to go pick up at the DMV (make an appointment to save time!). You bring in your old plates and they give you new plates plus stickers.... and BAM!

P, been wanting to get a set, but I'm not too clear on how the fees work. So you have the initial fee (~$50 I think) but what about when you re-register every year? Is there an additional fee? or will it be just the same standard registration fees?

You pay the increased registration cost annually.

the fees depend on what kind of plate you get. I got the one that benefits kids programs (Kids License Plate)... that is $50 initial fee and then $40 extra renewal each year.

yeah, I ran without any plates for about 4 months... figured that was a good run. You can technically get away without running a plate for 6 months... I call it pulling a "Steve Jobs". LOL

Since this car is so new, I think everyone can run without plates for at least 10-12 months (IF you got it really early on). When the 2014's come out that's when you'll have to put your plates on, since there may be differences in the look of the car.

Cops will then notice -- until then, since the car is new, you can run it without plates since it may be so rare. It's been month 1 so far.

I bet you could continue without running a plate well into 2014 if you don't get caught/pulled over for something else and you keep your car looking relatively new and inconspicuous. I really doubt anything major will change on the exterior of the car after only 1 model year - and the average popo certainly wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Pop quiz, what's the only exterior difference between a 2006 (first year of production) and 2007 (second year) Lexus IS350?

haha very good! yeah so my point being, for those who want to continue running without a plate, there probably will be very little visually to distinguish a 2013 from 2014 model to the untrained eye.

And awesome plate.
