Plastidip painted side vents

So I was looking at some videos over the weekend on Youtube of people using Plastidip. Too many I guess, because an about an hour later I found myself in Home Depot buying 4 cans of spray. Too many again because I only used one for this job. I really wanted to paint the roof, but after painting the vents and under the windows I noticed this stuff looks like plastic and it is not completely flat/matte. So I decided not to paint anything else.

When I removed the masking tape I also removed bits of the platidip so I went to the autoparts and got some red stripping. I think it looks pretty good. What do you think?

Looks pretty good except for the part where it meets up with the pointy rear windows. It would be a little more aesthetically pleasing if that line met up exactly at the "point" of that rear window. It joins the rear window just a bit too early in my opinion.
But other than that, nicely done.

That's just following the body line of the car.

I think it looks wonderful but i think you might be a little displeased with the plastidip it because it might be "zebra striping" which makes it look duller in some spot (what's duller than matte you say " Bad matte") which is caused by uneven application which is the easiest thing to do. That doesn't seem to show up in the pictures. Just give it a week or two and it might go away. If not and you don't like it do it again for another $5 That's why I love this stuff. But Honestly I think it looks great and I will be doing the same to my Asphalt.

Hard to tell anything from the pictures. Scale it out, take a picture of the entire side of the car.

A couple of products to help/modify/even out the appearance of the stock matte black dip are Plastidip Glossifier or Armor All (Natural Finish for matte or Classic for a bit shinier). Try these before re-dipping.

Also remember to pull your masking tape (blue works best for exterior stripes over standard clear coat) while the dip is still wet to cut a clean edge. If you wait till it dries, bad edge.

That stripe looks sooo microsoft paint. I do like the look though. I hate the fender vents and this is a good way of working with them.

I think it would look better if you painted the front "vent" and 86 piston outline red like this:

Nice job btw!

If you want to remove the red strip and try again here is my dip advice. To get a clean line that doesn't tear mask off the area spray and while the dip is still wet oull the tape off. The line should be super sharp and clea if you prepped the car right. If the dip starts to lift put the tape back down spray another coat, it will make all layers below it wet again.

Also you need to work on your layering of the dip cause its pretty flat when you are done if your spray patteren is good.

Here is my dipped side vent on my dipped car

I will probably add it. Thanks.

This was my idea originally. It may just look better glossy or with real paint than matte or plastidip and glossifier after. This one is done in Photoshop the other one is real, no MS Paint or Photoshop.

BTW thats not my car on the mock up. Its a members, but he has identical rims and a better shot of the car. I was far from my car when I did the mock up and couldn't get a good shot of it.

I like it, and something that I had considered doing myself, although like someone said above I would take it to the bottom point of the rear glass.

One of the things that has always kind of thrown me off when I notice it is the way the door does not flow very well with the fender vent. I just don't like that one inch or so "drop" at the transition point. I think this would help hide that.

Plus stripes add HP!

looks good. that pinstriping you can buy at autozone/pepboys/etc is pretty great. i put blue pinstriping on my konig wheels (originally red) in august of last year. so it's been about a month or so short of a year now and it doesn't show any signs of coming off.

There's a natural line on the car he's following. You can't deviate from that or it would look awful.
