Flywheel / Clutch rattle

It seems like a pretty common issue. Many people say it's "normal operation".

Is there a TSB or fix for this issue?

I'm tired of sounding like a 20 year old car when driving in a parking lot. I can deal with the ticky DI's but the rattle is a little ridiculous.

Do we even know what official cause is?

I coast in parking lots, feathering between 1st/2nd gear and neutral or with the clutch in. I look like I'm driving really carefully.

It's a combination of low rpm's not providing enough torque and inertia to fully engage the flywheel to the clutch, causing movement.

If you leave the car in gear (stay going down a driveway in 2nd) and don't touch the clutch, it will rattle noticeably at 2000rpm and down.

2k rpm in 2nd gear is approx 30kph (20ish mph) which is decently fast in a parking lot.

Could you explain how if the clutch is not disengaged at all, inertia and torque has anything to do with the flywheel making contact? Should it not be in full contact already regardless of these two things?

Don't fully engage the clutch; You have to feather the hell out of it in 2nd gear sometimes but it works.

It's funny how the people on this board think the twins should be as silent as a lexus. The transmission is noisy and so is the clutch and drivetrain, it's the way it is. My 350z was just as bad and so was my WRX. Alot of sporty japanese cars are noisy.

Good luck finding a fix for free, maybe an aftermarket clutch would help?

I happen to love all the noises this car makes. The transmission, the motor, the CRICKETS! People need to embrace these things. It sounds like a proper sports car, damnit!

Granted there are some sounds which will indicate an issue or failure, but a lot of the noises are just from normal operation.

I severely doubt that.

I don't expect it to be like a lexus. I'm merely wondering what the cause is and if it can be remedied. If I bought a 14k kia and it had a rattle I'd still want to know if there was anything I could do for it.

So far everyone just says "Don't be a baby, it's a cheap sports car" and that's fine... it's just not very productive or helpful.

It's not a matter of being anal and NEEDING to. It's a matter of wanting to and at the very least being informed about the common issues on this car.
