Anybody else thinking about buying crawfords rebuilt motor and turbo?

It seems like a cool project. But expensive, maybe about ten gram in the long run, if only I had a well paying job.

it is very cool, especially something to show off and say i built my motor by crawford, but if you think about it you could get a very similar build by a proper shop and end up with a less price.
the FA20 motor seems like a beast and with a basic rod, piston ( to lower CR) setup and mild head work you are going to be good to go ( engine wise)

@FA20Club.com is doing my built motor and i can tell you now it will be a lot cheaper going through a shop to get it done rather then going the crawford route with the same end result.

IMO its not worth the cost. The internals on the FA20 engine are decent as long as you stay reasonable on the boost. Do you need more then 250-300 WHP and 200-250 WQT?

Cool

I live near Dallas and wanted to know how much they'd charge for a custom tune? I did the ecutek stg2, but I'm sure they'd be able to do more.

I have a stage 3 fa20 engine built by AWD tuning ,....so yes they do more than tunes.

The list is quite long,...I got about 30k into the car, all performance related, it looks stock except for wheels and tires, windows are not even tinted....the latest upgrade was to install a custom fuel system designed by Accelerated Performance ( with Visconti inputs I have been told ) which is being installed this week,... because at the higher boost levels the stock system can't keep up, so it turns a returnless fuel injection system to a return system with a pressure regulator and extra pumps in the fuel cell. The dyno at AWDTuning is very underated compared to other shops,...its an awd mustang dyno,...my car was putting down close to 400 whp but was leaning out , hence the new fuel system.....with my new upgraded turbo,...removing the last cat,....and now getting the fuel it needs I should be in the 450whp range reliable,...maybe better.

Ten gram eh.

When power upgrades are added to the stock block (a turbo kit for example), there is only enough room for about 50 hp and about 5-6 lbs of boost. With our custom designed forged and billet internals, we have brought the compression ratio down to 10 to 1. This opens up the motor's potential for power, and makes our custom designed turbo kit run at it's full potential as well. We have already made 475 hp/tq with this built engine, and we are continually impressed with the strength, durability, and reliability of Subaru's new platform combined with our internals. We can confidently say this after rigorous R&D, including 6 months of dyno time and track testing. That R&D will only continue to see what this motor can really do!

All components engineered & manufactured by Crawford Performance have been tested for ultimate performance and maximum dependability on and off the race track. Our rigorous testing and numerous accolades assure our clientele that we at Crawford Performance demand the best of ourselves and the products we create. Our clients deserve nothing less.
The most versatile and most popular Crawford Shortblock in the “S” series just happens to be the S3L-I. Incorporated into the block are high performance BRZ main and rod bearings and BRZ piston rings. These Genuine BRZ components allow for maximum safety and reliability. No cheap knock off parts here. To keep with our high quality standards, we use Crawford offset wristpins to decrease the piston noise associated with forged pistons. It is helpful to note, the Crawford Billet I-beam rods serve two purposes; 1) to increase the rod ratio which allows for smoother and efficient power delivery 2) the I-beam rods used in this motor are hefty strong rods designed to withstand the power produced with race fuel & high boost levels.
Only enough room for 50 hp and 5-6 psi eh Crawford. You are paying $5000 for an FA20 block with CP rods and pistons essentially. Is anyone actually running the Crawford turbo kit yet other than the $60k Crawford edition car?

Actually he is not far from the mark IMHO,...10psi is about as far as I would go on boost with stock internals and compression ratio at 12 to 1 reliable long term,...remember he has a name and reputation to protect. Sure you can boost higher but then what,....bitch about the engine blowing and Crawford selling you a bill of goods. Marketing?......not so much,......common sense engine building for FI for the masses.....yes. He has to take into account all situations and all scenerio's hence the lower boost number.
