Anybody else thinking about buying crawfords rebuilt motor and turbo?
It seems like a cool project. But expensive, maybe about ten gram in the long run, if only I had a well paying job.

it is very cool, especially something to show off and say i built my motor by crawford, but if you think about it you could get a very similar build by a proper shop and end up with a less price.
the FA20 motor seems like a beast and with a basic rod, piston ( to lower CR) setup and mild head work you are going to be good to go ( engine wise)

Im pretty sure theres plenty of shops that could do it for less, ill most likely go with fa20club or awdtuning in dallas.

IMO its not worth the cost. The internals on the FA20 engine are decent as long as you stay reasonable on the boost. Do you need more then 250-300 WHP and 200-250 WQT?

Cool
I live near Dallas and wanted to know how much they'd charge for a custom tune? I did the ecutek stg2, but I'm sure they'd be able to do more. |

The list is quite long,...I got about 30k into the car, all performance related, it looks stock except for wheels and tires, windows are not even tinted....the latest upgrade was to install a custom fuel system designed by Accelerated Performance ( with Visconti inputs I have been told ) which is being installed this week,... because at the higher boost levels the stock system can't keep up, so it turns a returnless fuel injection system to a return system with a pressure regulator and extra pumps in the fuel cell. The dyno at AWDTuning is very underated compared to other shops,...its an awd mustang dyno,...my car was putting down close to 400 whp but was leaning out , hence the new fuel system.....with my new upgraded turbo,...removing the last cat,....and now getting the fuel it needs I should be in the 450whp range reliable,...maybe better.

Actually he is not far from the mark IMHO,...10psi is about as far as I would go on boost with stock internals and compression ratio at 12 to 1 reliable long term,...remember he has a name and reputation to protect. Sure you can boost higher but then what,....bitch about the engine blowing and Crawford selling you a bill of goods. Marketing?......not so much,......common sense engine building for FI for the masses.....yes. He has to take into account all situations and all scenerio's hence the lower boost number.
