A/C Delete?

Has anyone taken their air conditioner out yet? I'm wondering what all accommodations you would have to make to do this, such as a shorter serpentine belt, etc. Anyone?

I don't think it would be too difficult. BRZs and GT86s in Japan and other countries have an option for no AC. As for the belt I'm pretty sure it runs the same belt, but in place of the AC compressor there is a pulley system. You can see it here:

Is this it?

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm deployed and haven't even laid eyes on my own car yet. So I'm definitely not familiar with the engine layout yet.

Good!

...I'm lying. Now I'm just confused: what does that do? Is it just a dummy pulley in the place of the compressor? If so, why not just use a shorter belt?

Yes, it is a free spinning pulley in place of the AC Compressor. If you look at the belt routing diagram you can see that if you just remove the AC Compressor (F) and run a shorter belt it will not work.

Oh, ok. About 3 seconds after I posted that, I realized that was probably why. I wonder if I can get this setup with a lightweight pulley. Although anyone that has this setup to begin with is obviously pretty serious. It should only have a lightweight pulley available to begin with.

Yay, something to research!
