Subject: ToyotaCare Enquiry

Dear Reaz

We acknowledge receipt of your e-mail.

Kindly be advised that there is no indication that we would bring the "Aero Package" to South Africa currently, should there be a change in this regard it would be communicated to the dealerships.

It is available as an optional extra in EVERY single country in the world that sells the 86, EXCEPT SA.

Nothing New

For years , I've considered Toyota SA the worst Toyota franchise in the world. We always get lower specs and higher prices than the rest of the world. Wonder if Toyota Japan knows about it - surely they are concerned with their reputation ?

don't worry. Had a Honda, Honda SA might take the trophy for the worst. All they do is forward your email to the dealer involved, thats it!

I managed to get a really good lip kit at a great price...... Shat my second pair when I got the shipping quote......
Rule of thumb for importing bigger parts, what ever you purchase, double it on shipping costs.
Eg Modelista full aero kit $1200, shipping to SA $1600 excl duties.....

Most TRD parts are available, take the part number to your dealership, you will be required to pay upfront or a deposit, which Toyota will bring in if not in stock in JHB... These parts are expensive and based on the numbers coming in and the potential people that will buy the add ons, possibly does not make sense to stock in South Africa.
Can't say Toyota are no good due to this....

Maybe but in the 86's case we're getting higher spec than pretty much everybody else. Things such as leather seats are optional and I think something like 1500GBP in the UK. The States are not even getting climate control or anything else as an option. You have to buy the BRZ if you want those.

But yeah, as far as accessories goes, at last we're getting the TRD stuff and we got it a couple of months before the worldwide launch.

The states gives you a very basic 86 becuase they aiming the car at students.
What student in SA can afford an 86.
Yes we getting the TRD parts but at the prices they are selling the stuff at, you'll probably only ever buy 1 or 2 TRD items, unless you're a TRD fanatic.

Sure but have a look at the TRD prices in Japan. Pretty much exactly the same as here, so how is it Toyota SA's fault? I doubt this kit would be much if any cheaper than the TRD bits.

My issue is that every single country offers the aero kit. They don't have to stock it in SA, but at least offer it as an order item on their system. It costs them nothing.
As for the TRD parts, you can get equivilent or better aftermarket items for much cheaper than the TRD. (ie, why didn't u put in a TRD filter)

only play, only play

I agree the prices are way up there but as I work for a freight company I can say there are many factors why the parts are as expensive as they are. Customs duties, VAT, shipping charges. Toyota SA just needs to come out with a catalogue of all the parts available in Japan and make them available for special order.

The list of accessories on their local website is too short in my opinion. And also if they are to bring such special items in, the consumer must understand that because it is a special order item that it will cost more and take longer to arrive.

Or a local branch of TRD... Sad Australia killed off theirs in the recession.

I'm not saying it's TOY SA's fault wrt the TRD pricing.
My gripe is specifically with regard to the toyota aero kit that every single country in the world sells, except SA. And in Dec 2011 they showed off an orange high spec with the aero kit at a media briefing stating that was how the high spec will be sold. Now they don't even sell the kit.

Yup, I love it.
Wife hates it, so I guess maybe it's a good thing they aren't sold locally. LOL

Haha yeah, that wing is just too much for my liking. The rest of the kit looks great though.
