Brisbane Peeps - Where did you get your TRD spoiler fitted?

My hands aren't good with a drill - especially into a brand new car -

Where can I get this done professionally by someone who won't stuff it up?

without paying the same price as the spoiler itself.

I measured up and got my mechanic to drill 2 holes while I got an oil change.

Btw Mark, the instruction said to drill 2 10mm holes while the bolt was around 6-7mm. My mechanic drilled 7mm holes thinking its better but in reality it's better to drill a slightly bigger hole per the instruction so you can move the spoiler into the correct position.

Although mine isn't too bad, it would have been better if its a few mm lower.

This also might be a hard ask - but does anyone have the english version of the intruction manual? if so could you upload a photo? cheers.

I don't think there is an English instruction. It's really not difficult. Just cut out the supplied template and stick it on the boot then put mark on it and drill. Start from a smaller drill bit and work it up to 10mm. U might want to use some masking tape to help the drill bit to grab better.

Before peeling the tape backing, put the spoiler on to try fitting first. Once u are happy u can unpeel and stick the spoiler on. Finally secure the supplied nuts.

I also filed the holes slightly and used nail polish to cover up any bare metal on the holes to prevent rust.

take your time and do it yourself, don't drill until you are 100% sure,
this way you will do the job at the very least as good as anyone else would have done it and probably better. Nardi is on the money with small drill bits and masking tape

Just wondering, would the tape alone hold the spoiler on tightly so drilling into the boot can be avoided?

There are members here installed using tape only but I don't want to lose mine. It might not be strong enough if u park your car under the sun often.

The spoiler isn't heavy and there are other spoilers on the market that is taped on only. Since I'm not going to take mine off so I thought I'd drill mine.

Probably not, the stock tape supplied with the TRD kit(s) are pretty crap. However you can buy 3M "VHB '4949'" 12mm wide, 45micron thick double sided tape to replace them. That's what I'll be doing with my front bar. Gonna take it off, remove the crap stock tape on it, replace with VHB.

Tape is pretty expensive though, $115-125 for a 32.9m roll. If I had to use the TRD spoiler, I would just use VHB 4949 tape only. That stuff is incredibly strong(It's the tape used with my Carsmo rear spoiler).

I'd be too paranoid water would be trapped underneath the spoiler and rusting the hell out of the bonnet. I wouldn't bother drilling the hole.

Just installed the trd spoiler last night and cut off the two studs and used the tape only.

The TRD tape held on fine for me.. And very good as well. Not worried about it coming off at all.

Just so you people know, the kit supplies you with two plastic "caps" to screw onto those tabs. It's not even a nut.. So as far as pulling the spoiler down hard it really isn't going to do much in that aspect.

I've had mine on since September without screws in Brisbane. I used Sikaflex with mine to add to the tape. The screws do pull it tighter on the bootlid but many of the aftermarket lips (eg Carsmo) only use tape.
