Looking For Some Intake Opinions Or Concerns
Hey Forum, I work at R2C Performance and we are currently in the stages of creating a new intake for the FT-86 platform. We have done some preliminary designs and have fit a prototype to a vehicle.
Attached are 3 quick pictures of the prototype. If anyone has any concerns, opinions (aesthetics or otherwise), questions about the intake/filter/company or advice post them. I would like to see how this community feels about the product and what they would like to see so I can attempt to incorporate it. Thanks Excuse the slightly crooked box, both sides will sit parallel when he production model is released. That is the product of my poor excuse for sheet metal forming. It's a nice enough intake. Here are a few things that I'm sure will be asked:
1. Is there a cover on top, or does it sit open? 2. Filter type? Oiled/non-oiled. 3. Pricing. How competitive will it be? 4. Groupbuy when released? 5. Not a question per se, but if you could perform a Dyno test with it, it might help sell to a few borderline customers. |

Looks very similar to K&N only with a slightly better looking box

Looks like too many of the other intakes already out there. My only concern would be the heatsoak from a closed hood on a hot summer day.

1) It will be an open top box, but the bulb seal around the edges will be made so it seals with the hood of the car.
2) All of our filters are non-oiled filters: They are easily cleaned by blowing compressed air backwards through the filter. Stains in the white filter can easily be lifted by using an oxy clean type detergent and left over night to dry fully. 3) We have not discussed pricing yet as the final production quotes wont be in until the design is finalized. Though our filter systems are always competitively priced with other manufactures. 4) I know through other forums there is sometimes a sponsored vendor who may contact us about setting up a pre-release or group buy that will be able to get the first filters at the best price. 5) Once the final production model is released we may consider a dyno session. Our current prototype car, that we found through this forum earlier this year, has previous mods so it would be hard to determine gains over stock. Keep any more questions coming. |

Thanks for sharing with us, brother. As per my research...via review; Superstreet, D Sport magazine, etc, the AFE produced intake creates the greatest gains. ( Takeda & Greddy) are made by AFE and therefore identical... Takeda is my choice. I'd study those designs. I wish you well and hope we can do business in the future.

Concerning the heat soak, it sits up flush on the underside of the soundproofer/hood liner that will limit the amount of hood heat from sunlight is transferred into the air box.

MAF sensor placement is terrible. Too close to the 90 degree bend and the PCV connection. What is the ID of the MAF tube? Identical to oem, I hope. Why no lid on the box? Bulb seal was cheaper? No offense but I wouldn't buy it without some substantive changes. Good luck.

Here are a couple screen shots of the design as it stands, the first two are pulled from the design software and the third is a mesh to give a understanding of fitment;
The heat shield has been scaled down slightly to allow for an easier fitment into the engine. Small adjustments have been made to the heat shield height so that a seal is made to the underside of the hood without applying pressure on the hood or brackets underneath. The MAF block has been moved up the tube per a suggestion. Flanges have been added to secure the factory air intake duct to the air box. |

my biggest concern would be that the intake box appears to get in the way of using a sandwich plate for an oil cooler.

Almost all plates I have seen can be oriented. I dont think it will be a problem, personally

System Updates
To update any interested, some revisions have been made to the system.
The heat shield has been updated to include a contoured top that flows with the shape of the hood better and is more appealing to the eye. The flanges that lined up the heat shield with the factory inlet have been removed and replaced with a separate duct piece that molds over top of the inlet to create a sealed path for the intake of cool air. An optional lid has been added to the system made from a clear poly-carbonate material that when released can be tinted to a smoked grey as shown in the CAD image. The prototype vehicle is going down to the 86 Nationals Meet in Louisville this weekend if any are there and would like to see it in person. |

I have searched and couldn't find anything, but are there any reviews on this intake?
