Performance mod order? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Hey guys, I think I’m about ready to start modding my car but I’m pretty unsure about the order. I figured you guys could help me sort all that.

A few things to keep in mind:
I’m not rich so these parts will be coming one at a time, likely with several months in between.
I do intend to get a tune however I want to wait for the flex fuel kit that is coming out that allows me to go between 93 and 85 easily.

The parts I’m currently considering are the Perrin CAI, Inlet hose, lightweight pulley, catback, overpipe, front pipe, and a catch can who's brand I havent decided on yet.

I also wouldn’t mind suggestions that would complement the current mods on my list.

Do intake first. Might as well get it with the silicone elbow too.

Then I'd look into a tune. Then exhaust mods.

WORKS drop in filter with a perrin tube first

The two most noticeable mods that I enjoyed and are worth the money: Perrin Non-Res Catback and a tune. Whether you go with Visconti, FA20, or "other" is up to you.

Intake > Exhaust > Header > Tune

Get the tune once you have the bolt ons. Some tuners allow you to just get retuned for free once you purchase their tune. I'll be getting my car dyno tuned locally though.

TRD Start / Stop Button.

....at least you will get to see/push it every time you drive.

can't see your Intake, exhaust or wheels.

Tune would be the best bang for buck performance improvement. You would need to get it re-tuned when you get an intake, but all of the tunes available for our car right now offer free tweaks after you upgrade your intake.

Most apparent mod would be the exhaust, as you would see, hear, and possibly feel the difference.

Pulley is debatable as far as performance is concerned, but it will give you a slightly better throttle response if you have nothing else on the car. I have one, but if I had to give it up, I don't think I'd miss it now that I have everything else installed. It was my first mod though, so it served its purpose.

just my 2cents but i would go with suspension first. lower it with some coilovers, get some more rubber on the road with wheels, then there is the fork in the road. Go with more suspension such as strut tower bar, braces, etc OR go intake, exhaust, tune.

For the price of intake and full exhaust you could have a tune. More noticeable performance than any of those items combined. Tune first, then exhaust (if you want some nice sound and better looks) and then intake, better yet, just do a drop in filter. No intake out on the market for this car is worth the money, but that's just my opinion. BTW, I have the aFe intake, and although I love the looks, I really didn't notice anything at all. It was all the tune...

I'd say it depends on your personal tastes and goals...

- For sound improvement, go with intake and axleback

- For power, go with a downpipe and tune

- For looks, go with new wheels, springs, lip kit etc.

- For handling, go with new tires, various bushings, camber adjustment (e.g. plates, bolts, control arms, springs etc.) and an alignment

- For interior comfort, go with a company who sells re-upholstered interior parts

- For transmission upgrade, go with clutch/flywheel, short shifter, and better trans fluid

Obviously you can combine any of these...

At least that's what I'm most tempted to do, but I'm trying to stay stock for a minute. It's hard!
