Tyres

I know there are tire posts elsewhere, I wanted a tyre post because Aussie conditions and choice are different.

I'm interested to know what tyres people are running or going to run.

More information is better - brand and model of course, but also size. Price you paid/expect to pay and then any other information - personally I'm interested in minimal road noise, but others might want to know about comfort, stickiness, weight etc.

I've always liked Michelins and am considering Pilot Sport PS2's - had them on my boxster. The new PS3's look interesting but don't know anyone who's tried them. The PS2's run about $320 a wheel for 235/40/18's. PS3's are about the same.

The TRD version here in NZ comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 225/40/18 so that's what I'm going with.

I will most likely go with Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE002s when I get my wheels. I have a Gt, and will be going 17's. Will stick with GTS size of 25/45/17.
They are about $325or so each, but I will be paying MUCH less than that.
I'd consider maybe getting a set of 215/50/16 semi slicks for the standard wheels too. The 21's will be a bit wide on a 6.5in rim, but semi's have stiffer sidewalls anyway.

Potenza Adrenalin RE002 are GREAT ! I have them on my Celica ZR which has the bigger Sportivo wheels which are exactly the same size as the ones on the GTS, the 215/45/17's cost me $850 for 4 inc 4 wheel alignment from my local tyre pro in Melbourne about 6 months ago.

Excellent tyre, very quiet, grippy (probably too much grip), great directional stability & precision in dry & wet and if the RE001 are anything to go by then they will also last a very long time, depending on how you drive of course !

I LOVE the Potenzas & highly recommend them )

I'm thinking of some Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08's when I get my 86. Will be doing a number of track days and the 86 won't be my daily drive. May go same size as GTS stock tyres or one step wider, depending on what wheels I go for.

Saying that I will take it to the track on the stock tyres first so I can compare the difference.

Btw AD08's are a bit noisey I'm told, so may not be great for a daily drive only car.

They are awesome tyres... then you have A050 (semis) which is in a league of their own

I'll be getting some AD08's as well
not sure on how noisy is too noisy for you but compared to KU36 and RE001 then they aren't as noisy from my experience
KU36 noise was the worse by far and I can hear them over my titanium exhaust and all other sorts of noises from my previous car

only thing is that if you want fun on the roads where the car is a bit tail happy , then changing to high performance tyres will not make it as fun

Toyo Proxes R888 should cost you about $1200-1300 if you look around. 235/40 18
They are CAMS approved for production cars but road legal. They are good for track and grip like hell on a road. Given that Perth does not rain like the Eastern States all the better as they have a low void (cut out sections) Typical R Spec are more track than road so wet weather driving can be tentative.. Hey just a thought though..

Taleb Tyres do the best Sydney price.. oh and I have used them on the VE HSV (1780kg) at Eastern Creek (245/40 18) they performed well but not like a set of Dunlop Direzza D03 or Yokohama A050's...

I would never use Kuhmo V70A's ever again.. had too many failures
They bubble on the side walls and get surface de-lamination..
I have seen them fail on light Protons GTI's to Commodores... don't get me wrong.. they grip up well until they fail or are a throw out after one race round.. others may have differing views but I do not race with anyone that will use them..

Wow, that is VERY cheap!! Your tyre dealer made very little profit on those tyres Unless he purchased something like 200 of them,
The retail price comes straight from Bridgestone. I am an authorised bridgestone dealer and was logged into the Bridgestone Aust ordering/warehouse website at the time I posted. The list price is $324.60ea
