Pro-Tip AMEX Extended Warranty

I want to share a little story,,, may save someone some money.

I had a $2800 Simrad marine electronics device fail recently. It made it to 30 months on a 24 month warranty. I contacted Simard and they said they would try to repair ($250) and if that wasn't possible replace with newer unit ($2000). Note that the $2000 price is discounted from the $3600 MSRP. of said replacement device

I had posted my delima about this in a boating forum and someone had mentioned AMEX's extended warranty policy. The basics are if you purchase something with your AMEX card, they'll add 1 year on the warranty. As a guy who got his AMEX card in 1983, I'd had never heard of this.

Well, I committed to repair or replace and Simrad opted for the latter and charged me $2002 for the upgraded unit.

I just received notification that AMEX will credit me the $2002. Such a sweet deal.

They lived happily ever after with the upgraded unit.

P.S. The paperwork AMEX wanted wasn't too bad. Well worth the effort.

Just want to add, depends on what type of Amex you have, benefit might vary. Base us still same for all the Amex owners, just Gold & up gets extra benefits.
