What does the J02 recall come with besides valve springs?

The J02 recall comes with replacement head gaskets right? I'm trying to think of things that I should get replaced on a high mileage engine besides spark plugs. I bought the car at pretty high miles already and I'm not sure what was done to it, so I'm just trying to get as much done while the engine is out. I had a sound coming from my car and I had someone listen and said it's probably the timing chain or guide or something hitting the cover? So I'll probably ask them to look at that.

I'm basing my J02 replacement parts on this link https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/201...8V772-1294.pdf

no, it doesn't come with headgaskets and the heads are not removed, the valve covers are.
the only things replaced are the valve springs and their retainers
you can take advantages of the engine being removed from car, but you would have to pay for the supplemental work and it s better if you know personally the mechanic, if you are doing so actually

Thanks! But if I'm reading that link correct, the kit they use comes with head gaskets, but they don't do the work on it unless we pay for labor?

Yeah I'm pretty picky bout who I go to with my car. If it was an inline, I'd probably take the time to do the work myself. Tbh, if it's more work than is done, I'm not probably not going to risk fixing my engine that isn't broken. I just hate that I have to do this recall and that it's not optional.

What do you consider "high mileage"?

Fresh oil...
I believe original coolant is reused.
I believe original oil filter is reused.

FWIW I had the dealer do the upgraded TOB and spark plugs, plus an inspection of the clutch.

Dealer replaced my coolant, oil, filter.

Asked if I wanted to do spark plugs/water pump while the engine is out.

@aznchris I added spark plugs and new clutch throw out bearing. Not sure about coolant.

I had a small tapping sound before taking mine in, was gone after the service. I think it was my 50k mile clutch TOB on its way out, (car was at 105k when I took it in) or a small exhaust leak.

Just the springs however it's a good time to address other things. I was at 40K so did a new clutch and the updated TOB. Higher mileage and also plugs aren't a bad idea while it's in there

I've been looking around too and it seems clutch and TOB are pretty popular. Too bad I got an auto.

Yep! A surprising number of people would say something like 40K.

You are due for a few things if you haven't done them yet.

Hehe. Everytime I tell someone, their faces are shocked.

Oooh thanks for the list. Seems like most of the things on that list are already done, looked at, or not causing any issues or anything. I'll probably just get the spark plugs done. Then drop the pan after myself and make sure it's good and put in my own new oil.
