BORLA vs HKS HiPower exhaust ??

So I’m really torn between the 2. Heard nothing but good about both exhausts.

I daily the car so I don’t want too much drone but at the same time I’m looking for a deep rumble and a nice sound at high RPM’s as anyone would.

My original choice was the BORLA Axle back but then I was informed by my ft86 group in my city that the HKS is really nice so now I’m torn

Can anyone who has heard/owned the two give me some tips or experience owning either two? It would help sooooo much

Thanks bois

Borla is trash IMO. Their products are built in the cheapest way possible (just look at their header collector), and they price them like they’re upper-midrange products. For a catback cant go wrong with HKS/Greddy/Invidia imo.

I don't think either is known for deep rumble. HKS hi power is drone city according to a lot of people.

I can recommend the Greddy supreme SP for a deep rumble down low, a nice tone at the top, absolutely 0 drone anywhere, and it’s really nicely made, fitment is perfect.

Also don’t forget poly exhaust hangers, the stock ones are too loose for many aftermarket exhausts.

Oh wow I’m surprised I heard from a lot of people that the Axle back is really good. I assume jsut build quality is a flaw from them? :/

This is Borla’s header. The collector is the cheapest and lowest quality collector I’ve ever seen made for this platform. I wouldn’t waste my money on anything made by a company that thinks this is good enough.

Honestly, when searching for a catback, I go to google images and search "Used **********". The amount of rust on both the Invidia and Borla examples I've seen have scared me for how young this platform is.
I'd recommend Greddy all day. HKS may be a close second, but certainly will be less durable.

Don't get Borla. Please

I'm old, almost 73 now and I have built quite a few cars. I just bought a 2019 BRZ and am very pleased and I might get to some mods.

I have, as I said built a lot of cars, and I have never paid any attention to exhaust sound as an important thing. My 69 Cutlass with a 502 had 3" pipes and mufflers all the way back from the headers. If I got jiggy with it, it would set off all the car alarms on the road I was on. It was loud.

Now performance is never mentioned, and all that matters is the sound. Why does this seem fucked up to me?

That’s because OEM exhausts are so much better now than they ever have been. We can pick up 10-15hp with a full catted exhaust, but the catback is not contributing much. You’ll be hard pressed to pick up 7hp with even the best catback. For anything more you have to modify the emissions equipment, which a lot of people don’t want to do. So any gains will be minimal, might as well pick one you like the noise of.

There is probably only about 20 horse total you can get from intake and exhaust so I do take your point. I just find it strange someone would drop so much money on vanity basically. I am old.

Its new but I would like to rip out the motor and have a good look. Luckily I do not have a shop now, but that could change.
