first drive initial thoughts

howdy y'all
drove my brz to work today for the first time. i havent had a chance to drive it since i bought it on tuesday which felt like a lifetime. here is some of my initial thoughts on the car

1. power is sufficient but i can see why people would want more
2. havent drove a manual in 10 years so im rusty
3. this is my first rwd car and i am loving it
4. this thing is planted its kinda weird for me as i was driving a honda fit before this car
5. i think missed 4th gear twice on the way in(meaning i went to 2nd gear from 5th ). does that happen often to others?
6. overall i made it to work without crashing and with a big smile on my face. needless to say i am extremely happy with my purchase

You missed 3rd gear, not 4th. Not an issue with me, but I've been driving manuals essentially nonstop for the past decade or so.

What are the specs on your car?

Make sure you're revving it to 5k+ once properly warmed up. It's a far more rewarding experience than just puttering around. This thing doesn't make much power until you wring it out.

I suspect #2 is the cause of #5. This likely has a much shorter throw than whatever you drove 10 years ago, so there's some muscle memory to overcome. I'm sure you'll get used to it shortly.

Ahhh OK, you missed on an upshift, not a downshift like I presumed.

Don't know what to tell you, I've not had any issues. I love the shifter (factory STi short shifter).

I drove manual after 25 years. I must have stalled as many as 10 times so far until last month. I am driving pretty smooth now, sometimes shifting like butter, few times some jerk. One time during heavy traffic, I was panicked on freeway overpass and car moved backward from the stop didn't hit other car but it was close - damn scary. After that I turned on hill start assist hated it took it off. Now I know how to drive on hill too!

I wouldn't go back to automatic drive, manual is the best.
