Another Lug Nut Question...

I've searched extensively, and there doesn't seem to be a straight answer.

I picked up a used set of Rays for my autocross wheels. They're a 60 degree taper seat with a larger centerbore than stock.

To me it looks like I can run these wheels without a centering ring and with stock lug nuts. The wheels are lug-centric due to the cone seat lug nuts, and the stock lug nuts also have a 60 degree taper seat.

I've seen people concerned about about lacking strength without the centering ring, which doesn't make sense to me since most of them are plastic. All they do is help you line the wheels up initially.

There's also talk of the stock lug nuts scratching up the larger lug seat surface on the wheels because the stock log nuts have a smaller tapered section. This doesn't make sene to me either because the entire stock luck nut is tapered. The hex bit of the lug nut is never proud of the the tapered section.

I bolted them up and everything looked fine.

So just to make sure I'm not missing something, have people successfully run after market cone seat wheels with stock lug nuts?

Yep, there are some people and you a bit that way over think and complicate simple things.

Let's go over a few things really quick.

Lugs are the same same 60* taper and they fit right? They hold the wheel with out the threads bottoming out right? If yes then there is no issues.

Hub centric rings, those are for balancing and ride quality if you want them for daily driving. Since you just want them for autox you can go with out them.

If you get worried about lugs scratching up the wheel, you have no place in any motor sports. Your better off circle jerking in parking lot meets along with all those garage queens and instagram ***s.

Hope that clears up a few things.
