Trunk won’t open
2013 FR-S. About 2 weeks ago, I bought some bushes for the yard. One tipped over on the drive home. I cleaned out a couple small pieces of mulch from the trunk latch. Now, I can’t open the trunk. When you press the trunk release on the dash or use the remote, you can hear it click like it’s going to open. I have been trying to pull it open as hard as I can but it won’t budge. Is there a way to pop it open without going to an auto body shop or the dealer? Thanks.

I unhooked the plug on the back of that button.
Valet my car... Ha, that will never happen!

Thanks for the replies but I should’ve mentioned in my original post that I did try to open it with the key and it won’t open.

Yeah you said it clicks when you push the trunk release, as I recall it doesn't actually click if the security button has been engaged. Sounds like there's probably something stuck in the trunk latch preventing it from opening all the way. Have you tried having someone else push the trunk release and immediately pulling the trunk open yourself? I think the release just disengages the latch briefly so it may be a 2 person job to force it open.

OK push down firmly on the lid as you unlock it.

Not to take issue w/ Humfrz, but do NOT use WD40 on your locks, unless you want to have to use it constantly from now until you bury your car. WD40 is a "works now for lubrication" product, but makes things way worse in the long run. It's a great cleaner, and it's also good for creating a barrier against water, but it's a terrible long-term lubricant.. it gums up, attracts dirt, and makes things worse. For locks, use graphite.
If your back seat is not firmly latched (and mine usually isn't), try yanking the back seat down, then crawling into the trunk and using the emergency white/yellow-ish manual release tab right near the latch. If/when you do eventually get your trunk open, don't latch your back seat anymore.. just in case!

It appears that about 50% of the internet posters say it's good ...... and 50% say don't use it in locks. Hell, MuseChaser , I donno , I'm going back to Bubba and suggest he stick to 3in1 oil or coal oil ........ ![]() humfrz |
