3M tape for TRD JP parts?
Hey everyone,
My car is currently in the body shop and the owner called me asking if I knew how to obtain the 3m tape that came on the TRD japan sideskirts and the rear TRD japan wing. He had removed both sideskirts and rear wing to prep for paint and is having a hard time trying to find thick enough 3m that can replace the 3m those parts came with. He told me he tried multiple auto parts stores and couldnt find anything thick enough. My question for you guys is, does anyone know 3m tape that will work or any thick 3m tape? Thanks

You're saying thick enough so that the body meets the skirt better right? Not width of tape? Not sure I've seen the thick version, I myself have been looking.

Yes thick enough to the point where the sideskirt can meet up with the body

I've got a Series.Blue and the body shop had the same issue. Their only solution was replacing the parts (lip, skirt, spat)
I know that doesn't help, but it appears the adhesive isn't available separately (which is idiotic) |

Here you go: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...9ZVgl&MDR=true
Matched the tape on my STI skirts in thickness but double the width so I had to cut in half lengthwise. I managed to buy a sample roll they happened to have back in 2012 by asking politely over the phone. They wouldn't normally sell this to consumers at the time.

3M VHB is what you want to use. We have our guys use the VHB on the Teslas and other vehicle exterior. Pressure Sensitive Acrylic Double Sided Tape Follow this link: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...e?N=6105&rt=r3 On the left menu, click: "+tape thickness" click "more" You will see the menu expand like how it is below arranged by Thickness And these are the tapes called 3M VHB perfect for automotive. For more adhesion, the surface of the parts need better cleaning Or: use 3M Primer Tape Thickness
Hope this helps everyone out here! Last edited by wraparmor; 02-25-2017 at 11:37 PM. |
