Why not use the bumper design on the BRZ STI?

This looks far better than the "mustache" that's on there now and the one that now plagues the Toyota 86. Doesn't even look bad, not sure if its the carbon fiber look or the split look that appeals to me. I'm mostly talking about the bumper guard itself, not the whole facia

I've been waiting for an aftermarket knockoff for this clip and the GT300 for when my stocker is too busted and scratched. I appreciate that the 2017 is influenced by it and I may rather have that even. All great designs. I honestly don't like any other front clips.

The new BRZ bumper is "inspired" by it.. but they will not release this bumper. I remember there was a forum member working on making his own custom bumper to look exactly like the concept's

I think the carbon fiber would look good on all colors. If you blend it you might get a bulky look like one piece.

You ask unanswerable questions. Nobody on this forum works at Subaru at a high enough position on the totem pole to give you an answer as to why they make these choices. Subaru's notoriously bad at translating concept-to-product, and likely this is a function of their corporate organization (which is likely not dissimilar from any other automaker).

Likely, the design will go from the style guys to get reviewed by the materials engineers and aerodynamics guys, and then it'll get reviewed by the manufacturing engineers, and then it'll get reviewed by the 'brand' guys, and then it'll get reviewed by focus groups, etc...

At each stop of the way, something will get tweaked until it only sort of looks like the original concept.

not to mention that this is the FRS/86 forum and he's talking about a Subaru concept

This really annoys me. Concepts are kind of like false advertising. I understand that it is a concept to begin with, but why torture us with something that looks really good only to disappoint when we get the REAL car.

I know. To generate excitement.

I'm to the point that when I see concepts ... I don't get my hopes up because I know the final car will look nothing like it.

Rant over.

^This. Having experienced first hand a product life cycle from concept to production, there are numerous product iterations to address concerns/requirements across different internal teams.

For example, marketing could've toned down the design to be more in line with Subaru's brand. Maybe another team was concerned about production cost. Or maybe there was an engineering issue and so on.

I think they found a nice balance between the two. The Sti bumper has a lot going on and looks too much like a different model, which in that case it was meant to be. If they put the Sti bumper on the refresh without including performance upgrades there would be even more disappointed people complaining they gave it the looks without backing it up.
