Customizing the torque curve using ROM Raider

Hi all,
New to tuning. Got my OFT+OFH. Running Stg 2 91 Oct. Have used ROM Raider to change LC and try out the exhaust pops. Pleased so far but..

I'd like really to change the characteristics of the low end.

In particular I'd like to keep the car docile from 800-2200rpm then produce a 'jump' in power delivery from 2200-2600rpm (where the nice torque starts). Then from 2600-redline, run the as-is OTS program.

Just want to see if this can be done, and entertain myself a few days til I try something else

Any suggestions on what tables I'd like to 'flatten' in ROM Raider to produce this effect? Is it just Base Timing B? Or a bunch of others?

Appreciate any insights, suggestions or training links so I can learn RR and DIY...

Cheers

So you want to detune the lower RPM's to make less power so that you "feel" like your going fast once you hit 2600rpm?

you would probably have to change the throttle charasteristics look at the drive by wire throttle tables dbw, its quite complex, i have it but its possible use goodle to search this site for throttle mapping chamges or dbw tables ect

Yup. Boost but without boost
Sounds absurd but hey.

I got the idea today while driving in light snow. I started off a stop sign and there was partial traction. Then the tires grabbed and I had a nice push into my seatback. It was just around 2400 rpm. It actually felt just like the moment when you lag and then boost kicks in. So yea that's where the inspiration came from.

The torque dip at about 3800rpm is bad enough, you want to create another one? Dual stage v-tek?
I read somewhere that the stock car is made purposely with the torque dip because at low rpm=better mpg and at a track at high rpm, you would never go below 4k.

My guess would be play with the timing and take some advanced timing out.

Oh and trying to get that pull at low rpm and with a small displacement motor... don't expect much.

swarb: i wouldn't be so sure about torque dip being intentional, rather imho it's unplanned sideeffect of stock header design, as many aftermarket headers, especially UEL ones or Ace's EL fix that dip, without worsening mileage at low rpm.

pull timing, your mpg in daily driving will suffer though

This, plus some dialed back Base Timing B could do it

You can get that effect with the right AVCS and Ignition Advance timing. I'm usually trying to get rid of this effect, rather than trying to cause it. I usually end up just flogging it when it runs like that, because it's just depressing to try accelerating gradually when it has no power. The main reason I can't put up with it running like that is mileage though. It just sucks gas when it's flogged. Take a look at this table. It would run like you want it to.
