Final Drive Swaps
Hey everyone,
I am looking at Final Drive swaps for my BRZ. I do a bunch of HPDE and now TT events, as well as autox. What is your prefered FD, and have you played around with a couple different options? I have a lot of tracks where I spend a lot of time in the top of 3rd, or bottom of 4th in the corners. BRZ is tuned on E/L Header, E85, etc. I run 245/40/17 street tires or possibly 225/45/17 "R Comps". |

I just bought a 2016 BRZ 6MT and my first though was "this needs a higher FD ratio"
I haven't researched what stock is, but it feels like 12-15% quicker gearing would be perfect. |

m factory 4.67 final drive impressions
I am very pleased with the improvement the m factory 4.67 gear ratio made for me on track. It does a great job at masking the lack of torque the brz suffers from. I can now hang with and pass a competent driver exiting corners in say, a spec e30 bmw track car where I previously got eaten up due to the lack of torque. It really makes the car more fun to drive and quicker particularly at corner exit which will improve lap times. Changing gear ratios is always with some trade off though, as it will improve gearing in some corners but may become less advantageous in others. I think a lot of guys shy away from this mod as it doesn't actually improve hp and is moderately labor intensive to install. Good luck, I don't think you'll regret doing it. Look around on this forum and you'll see that many of the well built cars have done a final drive swap 🏁

The work doesn't bother me one bit, my car is in storage and ill just try to find a spare diff to swap in. Then get the FD swap in and swap a diff out when i do my pre-season fluid changes.

I have to de-mod my car to make TTD, so figured that means I can use that money to pay for a FD swap. I have a lot of places on the 2 tracks I am at the most where I am holding like 6500rpm thru the corner as im not comfortable at the RPM where I am in the next gear. I was thinking with a different gear ratio it could help.
I have a chance to get a decent deal ona 4.44 M Factory setup from a semi local racer. Last edited by ka-t_240; 01-26-2016 at 07:52 PM. |

I have an M-Factory 4.44 FD. Just did my first event with it at Roebling Road this weekend. Really impressed with it. Still managed around 30mpg on the 5 1/2 hour drive there too. I run TTD with NASA.

I've had 4.56 , 4.44 , 3.91 as my car has evolved. Changing FD really can change the profile of the car to fit your needs.
Sound to me like a 4.56 would fit your needs.
