Dealer upgraded Borla exhaust
So i bought my FR-S a couple of weeks back, the dealer had Borla exhausts installed on all their FR-Ss on the lot. I was wondering if anyone know anything about this exhaust as i was looking at after market ones. I would really hate to drop a grand on a new exhaust setup if this dealer upgrade is legit.

Check if the exhaust is axle-back or cat-back. If it's cat-back, then it's pretty legit for the dealer to install aftermarket exhaust.
How much was the mark-up price? |

It will totally be just axle back. That's okay if the price is right though, so you can go head and get yourself a downpipe, overpipe and whatnot for the power gains. It's been pretty well documented that just Axlebacks don't really do anything but change the sound, so if you like the sound, then it's all golden.

Weird that's not borla's typical exhaust set up. At least from what I read it was a single muffler located mid-car with dual exits. http://www.borla.com/products/frs_br...t__140496.html

Thats cool they did that but on the flip side its funny to see a dealer install aftermarket parts them selves and them yell at customers who do it.

They may have bought a couple of universal mufflers and just replaced the stock muffler and tips? I haven't had a real good look at my stock exhaust but does any of the piping look aftermarket?

This looks like the same Borla muffler they've used on Camaro/Firebird's for years and years just like a Flowmaster. I'd turn this one down from the dealer considering they're probably charging an arm and a leg for just that axleback.

Its defiantly axleback so the mid pipe and up is stock, but there is a noticeable difference in welds, hangers and piping brightness. I think im going to pickup a Nameless performance frontpipe/ overpipe and see what that does for the sound and performance, just go from there i guess

Any update on this? My FR-S came with this as well.
If the muffler is a good one, a new midpipe may help bring it up to the level of other cat backs that have similar layouts like the magnaflow and others I have seen. (wish this had been the actual Borla catback, but oh well) |

This looks like a custom built piece, not something Borla sells off the shelf.
