Unhappy Having exhaust problem, need help please

On Friday I had a catback exhaust (with resonator) and catted front-pipe installed. The catback is made by mXp. In the DSPORT magazine you can see it is not a loud exhaust as measured dBA. Now, before you go thinking it's the Motiv Concepts catted-front pipe which was not used in the test on DSPORT you should know I know at least a couple people with the Motiv front-pipe w/o cat and they have none of the loudness/drone I have.

Well this exhaust was so loud. Cruising at 65mpg on a 6MT was so loud I had to really raise my voice well to hear myself, the noise made me feel slightly nauseous. It gave me a headache and my ears felt like I just left a music concert. Temporary mild loss of hearing. I needed to lay down when I got home.

On Saturday I took a 45min or so drive. Same problem. After the drive I went home to lay down. My car was parked for two hours until my next drive. Well this time as I was driving it was peaceful. Coasting at 65mph barely had any exhaust noise to it , it was calm and pleasant. After a little while I got to a stop light. When the light turned green I WOT it to redline in first gear, and then redline in second gear. Sure enough this brought the terrible loudness and drone back.

I'm going crazy trying to figure this out. Anyone have any ideas?

Could be the muffler packing still breaking in. Give it some more time for the exhaust to mellow out before going crazy.

Also, have you sat in those cars with the same setup? Different break in periods and perceptions.

Haven't sat in them. I have been in contact with mXp. The exhaust will get louder in time after some burning off.

I was told it could have something to do with the exhaust flow from my engine.

Idk. Over-pipe comes in later in the week. Maybe I'll discover something. It's been on the lift twice now.

Check all your exhaust connections...it sounds like you have a loose connection somewhere that is being shifted into and out of alignment. I know one other person had broken exhaust bolts on the flange between the front pipe and the mid-pipe and that was causing noise issues for him. Adding and removing other pipes should NOT make it deafeningly loud, no matter what. Less adding pipes will make it slightly louder and change the tone...but it shouldn't change the volume so much it becomes uncomfortable. I would venture a bet that you have a loose connection somewhere, or something is wrong with the baffles in your muffler.

Thanks bro. I have no free-time until Saturday or Sunday with work. You're about an hour 40min from me so on a weekday is impossible

I bet you left the donut gasket used for the frontpipe in the OEM frontpipe. (Happened to me).

perhaps the nauseous feeling was also from a leaky pipe, ...

I think you have a leak before the rear muffler, when the exhaust gets hot it expands, and the leak opens up.
If that's not the case there's something wrong with the exhaust.
