Looking for help adding sub and amp to existing 2016 FRS sound system and head unit
Hey guys,
Before I get flamed, I have searched for a thread on this many, many times and all I found were rather complicated guides on using stock amp (which I don't think my model has) to install additional speakers etc. etc. etc., all of which were no help to what I want to do. From my old Jetta, I have two 12 inch MTX subwoofers with box and a monoblock MTX amp. My FRS has the bongiovi upgrade (Im in Canada) but the rear speakers are still crap. Therefore I want to put the subs and amp in the trunk and keep the 2016 factory deck and sound system. I am not sure if my best bet (or best result) will be to take the signal from the bongiovi amp or if I can use a line-out converter on the rear speaker cables from the head unit. I have not yet taken the head unit out so I am not sure if any signal from the bongiovi amp is even going to the rear speakers. I have done a subwoofer install using an aftermarket deck that had sub inputs but not on a factory deck without them. I have seen a lot of guides but they all seem to focus on replacing every speaker and usually use the factory amp under the trunk carpet which I don't think my car has (the bongiovi amp apparently sits under the head unit). I was wondering if you guys could help me out with the best solution to this before I start taking things apart. Will using a line-out converter kill my signal quality? Any pros/cons? I am thinking of recording or at the least taking pictures of the entire install and making a guide. Thanks, |

Well don't know about the new model but are you sure you don't have a amp on the trunk? If not then yeah, your better off taping into your rear speakers. Line out converters won't mess up your audio.
I have one it sounds just as good. Many new amps have built in line converters. My case I lost my wiring plug to it so I went with line out converter.
