Anyone able to communicate with the chassis controller?
Out of curiosity, has anyone been able to find a way to communicate with the chassis controller?

OFT offers the pedal dance mode. So they clearly know how to do it.
ANd there are at least two other companies offering a Pedal Dance module that plugs in to the OBD port and can put the car in pedal dance mode. I am not sure if these devices simulate the actions required to activate the pedal dance mode (engine temp, e-brake, brake pedal signals), or actually issue the command to the chassis computer to go to PD mode. |

I haven't looked into how the cars are wired, but a chassis controller controls the chassis systems: ABS/TCS/ASC. It is typically done on a separate controller and communicates to the ECU via CAN. If you can hack it, you could re-program those systems so you can alter the ABS, wouldn't have to pull the fuse to fully disable the systems, and you could unlock the data the sensors feed the controller. I assume the cars have sensors for steering wheel angle, long/lat acceleration, so you wouldn't need a separate data logger and sensors for that info.

I'd prefer rather tunability of current VSC mode. As in per which slip angle it starts to engage / how violent it corrects and so on. You are saying that some chassis controller is responsible for working of these aids? Hmm, i wonder if ecutek or OFT will be ever able to tune these things in future instead of simple switch off by repeating simulated pedal dance ..

I feel like we won't ever see anything from this due to laws pertaining to vsc/abs etc. But I'd love to be wrong on this. |

Yes they will be calibrated from the factory. But it most likely lies in a separate controller than the ECU, and in the case of autos, TCU. It controls how much slip it allows before it intervenes and starts modulating the brakes/reducing torque. Depending on the architecture, it could potentially even feed in steering lock. I'm assuming no one's actually looked into this.

A device is out there promising to give you control over ABS as well as pedal dance (and TPMS light too) - it's in final testing.

cjd: there is big difference between device, that acts as on/off switch, and device that might fine tune small parameters of work of those aids, like ignition switch vs OFT. While OFT guys made obd gadget to simplify engage of pedal-dance mode, is nothing like fine tune. Just simplifying switching on already pre-existing mode.
You guys try to imagine possibilities of such tuning: as this car is drive by wire, for example you can individually set some 'tables' for how each wheel brake individually at which maneouver according to steering wheel position/accelerometers readings operates by calculating what it should do every few milliseconds? Imho it's a bit unfair, but nevertheless POWER like that of tein EDFC active suspension. And all of that using preinstalled hardware, just with different firmware/tune. Second use in my eyes might be few of the shelf tunes gradually upping limits for VSC, so that depending on driver evolution/skill growth he'll be able to drive more and more near limits with only very biggest mistakes fixed, which would usually result in complete spinout / loss of control. As skills go up, limits can be rised via next level tune. Instead of what we get now - too early/too much interruption (VSC) or completely off. No steps in between. Either no interruptions and you are on your own, hopefully learning faster then trashing still new and expensive car, or not learning at all, as VSC will correct sooner then even 5/10 of limits. (i'm speaking of oversteer driving and learning required skills/instincts for that, not grip driving, if someone will try to correct me that even with VSC ON it's possible to drive very fast in 2nd case). |
