Diamond Star Motors Fans?

Hi guys!

Before I bought an FR-S, I've been a DSMer for the longest time! Back in 1994, the year I was born, my dad bought a brand new '95 Mitsubishi GSX Eclipse, came with a turbo charged 4G63 engine and AWD all for about 26K. Quite the bargain for the time!

In high school I bought this beauty as my very first car. It's a 1996 GSX Eclipse with only 46K original miles. I'm currently restoring this one to showroom condition. I've always loved bone stock DSM's because they are so rare after the Fast & Furious body kit era ruined most clean examples. DSMs were the victims of their intended demographic

A few years later, I stumbled across this rare gem! A 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T, a turbo charged, FWD, platform. This car is a 5 speed manual and has a black leather interior, a rare option only available for 1999 models. I bought it off the original owner, an elderly woman who received it as a Valentine's Day gift. It was only driven on sunny summer days and stored in a climate controlled garage the rest of the year. It only has 54K original miles!

Hope there are other DSMers lurking around on this forum!

In the neighborhood where I grew up, a guy down the street had a 97 GST Spyder that he drove sparingly. Always loved seeing it on the road when he took it out.

If I could go back in time to 1998 and get a clean untouched GSX, I'd be the happiest person in the world. Ugh it's so hard to find an unabused one

Welcome, that being said the Eclipse for 26k in 1994 is not as great as you would think. Based on inflation the current cost of your dads car new was 38.5k so more expensive than a WRX and about the price of an STI.

1991 Talon TSI AWD.
Finally retired it after 10 years and way over 500K.
It is now a 700+hp drag strip monster that gets raced almost every weekend.

Nope.
These cars took a lot of shit from the model purists back in the day. Most of it was unfounded. Much like going to other forums and reading that 80% of the twins have had the engines blow up or tranny's fall out like you see now.

I did let the timing belt go too long before changing it and put half the valve train through the top of the engine but that was my fault not the car's.

Well the GSX did have AWD and a giant wing, too.

Wow! Glad to see much feedback! The crankwalk debate is long over, with some research online you'll find that it was a topic WAY blown out of proportion. My father still has his GSX, daily driven since 1994 and with over 210K on the odometer. DSMs are a lot more reliable than they are given credit for, it's when owners modify their cars without proper maintenance and research do we run into such issues, like any car.

I would love to see more DSM pictures if anyone has them!

I think the only pic of mine (the above is the same but not it) was a really crappy first gen cell phone picture of it with a tree laying across it. Those were the pre 5,000 pics of a car days.
