*holy crap* moments when looking at used cars

So I've been looking at prices of these things all over the place, but I've never seen anything like this:

For only $38k you too can own a used 2013 FR-S It gets better! It has all these mods:Five Axis Edition Aero Kit (5 piece body kit including front and rear spoiler, side skirts, lowering springs, and wheels) $6,165, Yokahama S.Drive tires $1100, Kit installation (tire mount, wheel balance and alignment ) $687. Innovate Stage 2 Intercooled Twin-screw Supercharge $5300. TRD Exhaust $1,084. Total $40,366

Note how the seller ads it all up just so you know how much they spent.

Oh, to make it even funnier, the car has an automatic. And the seller says they are a dealership. Oh and "All new vehicles also come with the 2-year or 25,000 mile Toyota Care maintenance plan."

There have been worse posted here believe it or not. Some just don't get that adding a bunch of mods is not increasing the value by the costs. Never know though since it may be exactly what somebody was looking for so they will pay the price.

that's nuts. There was also a "Rocket Bunny" FR-S for $40k. I guess some people will try anything.

1. They're used to having suckers come on the lot, so they may have actually done this on purpose just to see what would happen.

Or

2. The fact that they're a dealer doesn't necessarily mean they have any idea what they're doing. Turnover is rampant at a lot of dealerships. The guy trying to sell that may have only been working there three months. They may have given waaaaay too much in trade value and are trying to recoup their loss.

This one was also being sold by a dealer:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90681

He started at $40K and dropped his price by $3300 when he found out we were making fun of him. It was still way too expensive. I wonder if they ever managed to sell that hideous thing.

Hey, someone might actually want an auto and if it's really covered under CPO warranty as it is with the supercharger and all mods then it might be good for somebody. Not for me but somebody.

I am surprised there is not more of a professional negotiator profession for people who totally suck at negotiating for cars. I mean seriously some people should know they suck at it and hire someone better, most times even 10% of the money saved would make a good daily paycheck.

Im surprised at how many people don't even bother negotiating and just pay the sticker price, as if they're shopping at the store.

I know a local who has a 2013 with 19k miles with over $40k into his (his words not mine) and can't even get a bite at $29k. It was the development car for the Rev Works turbo kit...

For many (most?) buying a car is more emotional that logical. They actually can get a high off it. These people don't realize nor care that their negotiating skills suck. This is also why we see people on here with long list of previous cars. They may justify the frequent changes in their head but the reality is they really just enjoy the search and buying process at a deep emotional level.
Every car has a buyer someplace no matter how over priced it is.

Extreme cases like this aren't that surprising. What gets me is the number of 2013 fr-s out there listed at 22-25 thousand.

It's out there.

Using a Car Broker to Buy Your Next Vehicle

Costco, AAA and some of the insurance companies also have car buying services. Some large corporations also have car buying services as employee benefits, especially if the company already uses a broker for fleet buying.

I suspect most people don't bother looking into any of this because they think they are good negotiators and assume that any money they might save with a broker would be eaten up by the broker's fee.
