Vortech Supercharger Without a Tune?

Hey,

I'm installing the Vortech supercharger that I received from Visconti (Along with the injectors, pulley, fuel pump, etc) and the problem is that I don't have my tune yet. (I put a request in on Friday but I'm thinking they might be closed for the weekend)

Can I run my car without a tune after installing the supercharger and all the mods?

What will happen? Also, what kind of waiting time have people experienced for Visconti tunes?

I'm super anal about my cars...so for me, its staying in the garage until it gets a proper tune, haha.

If you keep it low in the rpm range and don't push the car too much in heat, then it should be fine.

The second the car starts bogging, pinging, or exhibiting other strange/unwanted behaviors, its time to take her home...

Did you also get the upgraded MAP sensor?

I would say that this alone would make your ecu not exactly happy....

Worst case, keep the stock MAP sensor in and place the K&N filter included over the charge pipe port where you would normally plumb the bypass valve.

It should not produce boost and it should be fine to start up/move the car if needed. Lots of "Should"

If you are thinking about actually driving the car, I would not

I wouldn't risk it. The relocation of the MAF sensor alone is likely to cause issues without the tune if my experience with other intakes is any indication. The fuel pump, injectors, and MAP sensor will likely cause issues on top of that.

To anyone else waiting for their Visconti Vortech kit - for the love of god, get your software installed, Visconti zendesk account set up, and ticket submitted requesting the Vortech basemap. That way it's ready for you on install day.

There is a lot of work put into making the ecu run the motor right for boost. DO NOT run the car without a tune or you will destroy your motor.

Hrm, wish I would have read this a long time ago.

Exactly, I wouldn't even turn the key unless the proper tune was on the ecu. I had issues with uploading my tune not due to the vendor from who I got my tune, but through an unknown issue that caused the tune upload to fail so my car had to sit for two days while I got the issue resolved. This is why it's always good to plan for the unexpected. Hopefully you get your tune soon though so you aren't left without a car for long.

If it starts and runs on the n/a maps and accepts light throttle inputs without hesitating then chances are it'll be perfectly safe to drive around on part throttle up to about 2.5-3.0k rpm.

My car could barely idle with full exhaust. Vortech. Pump and crank pulley with or without larger map sensor. I would highly advise not driving the vehicle

The injector swap alone will more then likely keep it from even starting/idling at all. Same injector dwell time, but with much more volume = rich

Yeah, the injectors and FP will not allow the car to idle/run. If you did add a new map sensor, well even worse. There is no point in driving it like that. Rich condition is not exactly "safe", you can foul up spark plugs and we all know that is a PITA and a bitch to replace. Yea, to get a hold of Visconti's map you need to go through the zendesk site.
