Lowering, with lip kit?

Hey guys,

New to the car scene so forgive my ignorance. I finally got aftermarket wheels. Went with stock 17'' but this time with a 35 offset.

I was thinking of lowering it an inch with the TRD or RCE Yellows to get that wheel well gap smaller.

At the same time, I also want a lip kit. Will I have enough clearance? I know it depends on the roads I drive on. Does anyone have a picture of this setup as well?

Multiple people on this site are lowered with lips. If you're worried about clearance you'll be fine. Just be careful with how you drive, ie; stay away from potholes, be careful when going over speedbumps, be careful going into and out of driveays. This is typical things when lowering your car, just by adding a lip you're adding more mass to the bottom of your front bumper which is going to make your car appear lower from the front because that lip will be closer to the ground. I am currently lowered on just springs and do not have a lip and I do not scrape the underside of my front bumper (where a lip would be).

Just all in all, it takes mean you'll have to be more careful. The lower you go the less careless you can be.

1 inch drop with lip kit is not that low...you will have enough clearance.

My car with a lip and 1.5 inch drop, never hit hard! sometimes I scratch the floor but nothing alarming.

Wow, still some pretty good clearance so I'll have that extra .5 inch as well. Thanks for the picture.

Now should I get the lip first or the springs? I'm thinking lip first to see how much of a drop I'm willing to commit, springs with 1inch or more with coilovers?

if you take a side profile pic of your car before and after 1" drop i bet you wont be able to tell the difference

it depends on the lip, some are quite thin, some quite thick.

How much you can lower depends on that & conditions of the road you drive in.

In Orlando you shouldn't have any issues. I'm dropped 1", with the STI front lip, and I have to watch driveway's, etc., but I'm in NC. If I was still in FL, it wouldn't bother me at all, there were plenty of lowriders and minitrucks running that low, or lower, static dropped back in the day.

I can see the difference. Especially so when I was researching the springs, RCE Yellows .08 vs the TRD 1''.

Great to know! Thanks, and yeah I don't to drop way low to the ground like the trucks or civics I see around here.

I'm lowered about ~1.25-1.5" and just put on the STI lip last weekend. I definitely know how to drive a lowered car, before the lip I scraped maybe once every two months on very steep driveways - but since putting the lip on I have scraped twice in three days - definitely needs an additional level of caution.

Like what you did with the side skirts. Looks way better than all black.
I have the front and rear on my WRB, but the sides were too much black.
nicely done, I may have to steal that Idea

I'm on STI lip number 2 for various reasons and it was cracked this week. I saved the STI emblem and am going to start using the cheapest good looking lip possible and superglue the small badge on. STI gets $350 every time a raccoon runs in front of me next time I'm going sub $100.

Thanks man, go for it! They are actually Zele sideskirts, not STI - but pretty similar.

Perfect! Thanks. I was looking into putting that STI lip on my car as well since it's the best looking lip even though I'm running FRS.

I think I might be a bit better though since I'm only going 1'' with the TRD so I'll have a .25-.5 clearance over you? I've been extra careful about going over things now that I've gotten my first set of aftermarket wheels.
