Gap - Fog Light Cover & Bumper

Hi,

I scratched my car and sent it to panel beater to fix. They had to take out the bumper and as a result there is a gap between the fog light cover and bumper.

Hope it comes out well in the picture. Did they break off anything or is this fixable?



The painted area is just below the cover and I suck at DIY .

The gap is on the right. Quite hard to see from picture, will try to take another one.

It is not very noticeable, I did mention it to the panelbeater and he said as it is plastic on plastic, it is hard to get it exactly the same.

I'm thinking I should just live with it but it does pain me that its there.


EDIT: Woohoo! Fixed. I watched some tutorial and gathered my courage, pulled the cover out as they were clipped on. Realigned and its now as good as new.

Yes every time I google this forum pops up.

I am a bit concerned about washing my car. Does it matter if the bumper is baked or not baked if I don't wash it for 30 days?

Can I eventually wax it even if its not baked?

I am a bit OCD as I just got the car 2 weekends ago.

same thing i have...the plastic tabs on the bezels are weak and can break easily especially when trying to force it back in. Fortunately bezels are pretty cheap. I would pop them out and check to see if the tabs are bent or if they are not in completely in.

Honestly didnt see it till you pointed it out. I'd leave it. I was looking for a huge gaping hole or something. Should be okay to wash it, you do drive it in the rain and water gets in there anyways from some point. No worries just drive and you're mind will blank this out eventually

Yep, this forum is quite active.

When I read this forum, the 80/20 rule seems to apply.

80% of the posters know what they are talking about, 80% of the time;
20% of the posters are misinformed or have misconceptions.

However, if the 20% that are misinformed posts something not right, the 80% will correct them within an hour. If those "corrective posts" were by the 20% of the 80% that only usually get it right ……. a flurry of posts will ensue.

Then you have the old coots that are still looking for the ignition switch to be on the dash and the headlight dimmer switch to be on the floor. Take their input with a grain of salt ….. because …… they are usually stuck in the 50’s.

Oh yes, about the new paint. I wouldn’t be in any big hurry to wax it …. let it dry for a couple of weeks. I reckon it will be OK to gently wash it with automotive washing soap.

Thanks for the replies. Yes when I pulled out the cover the clips looked very weak.

I dropped by the panelbeater this morning and he told me I can wax immediately. Seemed a little too soon imo...

Sorry I don't know much about car paint, will it eventually hardened enough that waxing etc won't damage it or will it always be weak?

"panelbeater" ...... is that the name of his business or is that just what you call him ??......

Well, the "panelbeater" knows what kind of paint he used, so if he says it's OK to wax it, go ahead and wax it. However, I'd still wait a week or two.

Some say that the aftermarket auto paints are "better" than the factory paints, because the factories are VOC (volatile organic compounds) regulated.

Heck, I'd suggest you just care for the new painted part, just like you would the rest of the car ......
